A Few Questions About Baby Shower Gifts

My bro and SIL are expecting their second child in July (though I'm pretty sure he/she will come early like nephew). The family wont be throwing a formal baby shower for her this time but I would still like to get her a few things. What can I get for her?

With nephew they didnt find out and they are trying not to find out this time what they are having (even though the results are in a sealed envelope on their dining room table!!) I know diapers and wipes are always good. Is there anything that they may need two of? Or a replacement? Obviously this is all new to me.

Diapers are always great. I've even given people cans of formula if they planned to use it and knew what brand they wanted to use.

For my sisters 2nd children, we got them new bedding, but they picked it out.

It's expensive and I don't know what your budget it but a car seat. Maybe they'll be able to use their old one but I think there are limit's on how old they can be or something (clearly I'm new to this too).

How old is the first child? Will they need to have two of anything (high chair, diaper bag, etc)?

how old is your nephew? ie: how far apart in age are the kids?

one of my friends just had #2 and she did a small wish list. there were a lot of bottles on there so i'm thinking she totally replaced her stash. just one idea...

What is the age difference between the two? If your nephew is young enough that he is still using things like a carseat, high chair, stroller, etc they will need a second one for the new baby. Bedding is definitely a good idea. Or, I know a lot of people will think of it as too impersonal, but a gift card would be helpful, as well. I might actually wait until the baby is born and buy a gender specific gift; if they have a girl this time around they'll need clothes more then anything.

Since LO#2 will be 20 months younger than Nate, I've thought about this a lot!

Nate has basically outgrown all of the baby stage furniture/gear/stuff. The only thing we will need to get in that area is a twin bed for Nate, but he's not ready for it yet. The baby will sleep in the pack n play bassinet until we get Nate's big boy bed. Another thing we might need is a double stroller. I don't know what price range you're considering, though, and it also kind of depends on how old your nephew is.

If we have a girl this time, we will of course need clothes. If it's a boy, he can wear all of Nate's clothes, but it would still be nice for him to have some things that aren't handmedowns. Since you won't know what gender clothes, though, a Carter's gift card might be nice.

Also, you can always use more toiletries and medicines. We're still using toiletries (body wash, lotion, and diaper cream) that we were given at Nate's shower. I did have to buy sunblock (I like Neutrogena Pure and Free) and baby bug spray. What we kept/keep in the medicine cabinet: baby chest rub, infant Tylenol and Motrin, Mylicon, saline spray, gripe water, Hyland's Teething Tablets (I'm not sure if they're back in stores yet after being recalled), and Baby Orajel.

ETA: Also, if they use bottles they will need new nipples. Same for pacifiers.

Thanks for the responses! My nephew will be 2 on April 26th. So baby will be about 25-26 months younger than Shaughn. She had Shaughn 6 weeks early so we are assuming #2 will be early also. SIL is so small that there just wasnt any room left for him in there!

There's also a surprising amount of clothes that can go for either gender if you get away from the blues and pinks, so that could be nice, especially if they end up with a girl. If it's a boy, new clothes is always nice anyway.
