Happy St. Patty's Day! Beer  Happy St. Patrick's Day to you, too!

How's NJ?  Do you miss the big city?

NJ is good. I really like Hoboken. It's a very charming place and I love being so close to the Hudson River, with a great view of Manhattan. If I can't be in the city itself, this is a great place to be! And the savings in city taxes and rent make it even better. :)

Doing anything fun today?  Not really. I was going to go into the city for their St. Patrick's Day Parade, but it's always SO crowded I decided to skip it. I've got Guinness Beef Stew in the crock pot and I'm wearing my green at home!

What do you miss most about Manhattan?  I mostly just miss being within quick walking distance to nearly everything. In our last place, I was less than a 10 minute walk from Times Square or Central Park, and about 20 minutes to Rockefeller Center, etc. There were movie premieres just  few blocks down my street, etc. It was really convenient. I'm still about 15-20 minutes from midtown Manhattan by train, so I can't complain too much, but I miss being able to just walk out my door and be in the middle of it all, you know?

Do you have a vacation planned?  If so, where to?  Nothing definite yet. We're coming to FL at the end of this month for a wedding, and have a Niagara Falls road trip tentatively planned for Memorial Day weekend. We're also trying to decide between Hawaii or Italy for a big trip this year.

What is your fave vacation spot? I've been to the Cayman Islands 6 times, so I guess that's my favorite! I just love the Caribbean generally, though.

Where did you end up moving to?  I missed that post.  I moved to Hoboken, NJ!

What do you like most about your new area?  The whole town is just so stinkin' cute. It's so small and charming, with so much to do. My favorite part is the Riverside Waterfront Walkway. I could honestly stare at the NYC skyline for the rest of my life, I love it so much.

    Where does your family live?

What are you looking forward to exploring most in your new area?  Hmmm, good question! I think I'm most looking forward to trying a bunch of new restaurants. There's tons of restaurants and pubs here, and they all look so cute, I want to try them all. :)

Favorite cupcake flavor from Crumbs? Baba Booey, hands down. It's chocolate cake with peanut butter flavored filling, with chocolate/peanut butter frosting and peanut butter chips on top. HEAVEN.

Any more cruises planned?  If Heather gets another job on a cruise ship, definitely, haha! I don't think Eric is really a cruise person, so we probably won't take one ourselves unless she's on the ship. I did have fun last year, though, for sure!

Favorite outfit to dress up Achilles in? :-)  LOL. That's a tough one. I love his little costumes. I think my two favorites have been either his Fourth of July Uncle Sam look:

    image

or his pirate costume from this Halloween:

Are you planning on staying in the NYC/NJ area for good?  No, unfortunately. My H hates his job and wants to explore other career options, and NY/NJ is just too expensive to be sustainable long-term. I would say we'll probably be here only another year or so.

Where does your family live?  My immediate family and all my in-laws are all in Florida, mostly in St. Petersburg.

  • GAH!  I love the pirate costume!  He doesn't mind that you dress him up?

What does your H do for work?  What would he like to change to?

GAH!  I love the pirate costume!  He doesn't mind that you dress him up?  Haha, he's never super excited about getting dressed up, but he's a good sport and for the most part just sits there and lets it happen. I might have crushed his spirit.

What does your H do for work?  What would he like to change to?  He's a corporate attorney, and he's basically still trying to figure out what he wants to be when he grows up. He's sort of keeping his eye out for different things he could do with his law degree (maybe be in-house counsel somewhere), but he's also considering a major switch. I think he would really like to teach high school and be a golf coach, but he's undecided.

Jen, also, I've been meaning to thank you for running this AMA thing! I don't always chime in with questions because I'm pretty bad at thinking of questions (in real life I'm pretty bad at small talk, too), but I have loved reading everyone's responses! :)

LOL.  I've always wanted to dress up my dog, maybe I better start with a bandana or something on the puppy to get her used to it.  My last dog would glare at me if I tried to put anything on her.  Puppy has a completely different personality... she'd probably eat it.

Do you just have that one dog?  For some reason, I think you have more pets.

Do you just have that one dog?  For some reason, I think you have more pets.  Just the one dog for now. I would love to get a second dog eventually, but when we travel boarding costs are too expensive here to have 2 dogs. We've also struggled a lot with Achilles' separation anxiety, and although I think having a 2nd dog would help with that, my H is not on board. Someday!

I did have a goldfish for like 2 weeks. I won it at a bar here called Carnival. Ha!

Do you golf?  I do not golf. My H really wants me to learn, and I might someday, but I'm in no rush. I'm terribly unathletic so it won't be pretty.

Do you all eventually want to come back to FL?

It's quite possible we'll end up back in Florida. Location-wise, I would really rather not (I'm not in love with Florida, really), but with all our family being there, it's quite likely.

If family weren't a consideration, I would prefer to move back to DC!

What is your favorite thing to do in NYC?  Oh goodness, that's tough! My favorite thing about NYC is that there is just so MUCH to do, all the time, so it's hard to narrow it down! If I have to pick, though, I would say go to the theater. I just love live theater and try to see shows whenever possible.

What do you miss most about St. Petersburg?  Other than my family (that's a given!), probably the beach. I love being near water. The Hudson River is nice and all, but I miss the Gulf!

What is your favorite color?  Blue is my all-time favorite, but right now I'm on a pretty serious purple kick. :)

Have you ever been to Coney Island [I have a friend who works at their brewery]?  I have, a couple of times! We even went to the Hot Dog Eating Contest out there on the Fourth of July a couple years ago. I've never been to the brewery, though!

Do you watch Jersey Shore? I do. It's a guilty pleasure show. :)

  • What is your one very most exciting NY experience to date? Best celeb spotting or encounter?

Of all the places you've traveled, where would you like to go back to more than any other?

If you do move back to FL, do you think you will continue the same line of work?

  • imagetashaandsage:

What is your one very most exciting NY experience to date? I'm not sure it's the most exciting, but my favorite NY experience was probably doing New Year's Eve in Times Square. It was absolute torture - so crowded, only 1 degree, we stood out there for 6.5 hours, etc. But at midnight it was SUCH a cool experience, and something I am glad to have done. I would never, ever do it again, though!

Best celeb spotting or encounter? This is tough. My favorite celeb encounter was probably seeing Tim Tebow leaving the Heisman ceremony (the 2nd time he went, not the year he won). When he left I literally chased him down the street until I got next to him, then called out his name. He looked right at me and I took a picture and nearly died. And then I ran into a parked car. True (and embarrassing) story.

Movie premiere/award show red carpets are a lot of fun to watch, but I like it most when we just see celebs on the street - Tracy Morgan shops at our (old) grocery store, I passed Idina Menzel on my street, passed Owen Wilson on my way home from church, and Kristin Chenoweth once said hello to my dog and called him cute. :)

Of all the places you've traveled, where would you like to go back to more than any other?  Sadly, I haven't done much extensive traveling. I think I would like to go back to Scotland though, and explore more of the country. It was really incredible there.

If you do move back to FL, do you think you will continue the same line of work?  That would probably be a problem. There don't seem to be nearly the amount of jury consulting firms in the Tampa area as there are in DC and NYC. I could probably continue working for the consultants I get most of my work from long-distance, but it would be even more infrequent. Realistically, I would probably have to look at a career change. I don't really know what I would like to do - maybe something more creative.

  • What are the best 3 shows you've seen in NY?

Do you know how jealous I am that you saw that Idina concert and Joel Grey/Sutton Foster? (Ok, that's more of a rhetorical question...just know I'm jealous!)

What celebrity are you most wanting to see that you haven't?

    Favorite book? TV show? Movie?

  • imageKimandRoss:

What are the best 3 shows you've seen in NY? If we're just talking Broadway, my three favorite shows are Wicked, Rent and Phantom. Not sure they were the best, they're just my favorite. Lion King was also an incredible show, as were West Side Story and In the Heights. Clearly, I can't choose! :)

Do you know how jealous I am that you saw that Idina concert and Joel Grey/Sutton Foster? (Ok, that's more of a rhetorical question...just know I'm jealous!)  LOL, yes, I consider myself very lucky to have the opportunity to do these things! In answer to your first question, if I don't just limit it to Broadway shows only, the Idina concert is definitely up there on the list. That was the most incredible concert I've ever been to.

What celebrity are you most wanting to see that you haven't? Oooh, also tough. Maybe Leonardo DiCaprio, just because I was in love with him as a teenager? I've also seen pics of John Krasinski out and about in NYC. Wouldn't mind running into him, either. OH, and I have stalked Michael C. Hall in vain a couple times. I'd like to actually see him!

Favorite book? I usually mostly like true crime novels in general, but I LOVE "The Art of Racing in the Rain" by Garth Stein. Clearly not true crime, but I loved that book.

TV show?  Of all time: Friends. Currently on the air: Dexter.

    Movie?  When Harry Met Sally
