Re: POLL: Do you feel appreciated at work?

  • I work for myself now but I'm bored (i.e. procrastinating) so I'll answer based on where I volunteer.

    Yes, I feel appreciated.

If Yes, what do your Coworkers or Boss do to make you feel appreciated?  They tell me they appreciate the time I spend there, they invite me to employee retreats and meetings (yuck to the meetings but I appreciate the thought), they gave me an award at the last annual gala, they ask for my feedback on stuff.

As a coworker/employee, how do you show your appreciation at work?  I keep the receptionist stocked in chocolate because she always goes above and beyond, send thank you notes to the translators/interpreters when they've helped me with a client, do things outside of my responsibilities when I see that someone needs the help.  When I was a manager at a job long ago, I always had a stack of note cards and whenever an employee did something noteworthy or seemed to need a little pick-me-up, I'd write a little to them with a couple pieces of candy or a scratch off ticket.

  • I am only working part-time right now, and I work really independently, so I have a little bit different work situation than most people. I basically determine my own schedule, and I don't have really established performance goals.....this position was created for me, and no one has done it before for this organization, so it is kind of a trial thing.

That said, I do feel appreciated by my boss. I sometimes am unsure of whether I am contributing in the way that she would like, if I could be doing more, or how much of a difference I am making, but she definitely tells me regularly how much she appreciates my work.  I think it is really hard because there weren't really clear expectations when I was hired, so I can't necessarily screw it up too badly, but I also can't really know 100% that I am knocking their socks off either.  So really, it is more of my issue with not feeling totally confident, than it is her not showing appreciation.

Lots of love and continual explosions of babydust to my BG Besties! XOXOXOXO

  • By my customers? Absolutely!

    By my boss? Definitely yes

    By my company? Hell no!

I treat every one of my customers with respect and I'm always friendly. I am fair to my employee and her needs. I go to bat for her often with my own boss.

I want to know that when I voice my concerns and comments that I am heard. I want to be treated with the same respect that I give others. I work in an office full of awesome people, but my company leaves something to be desired overall.
