I work in a very small bank branch. There are 2 tellers (myself and one other), a head teller, and a commercial lender. Us 2 tellers are part-time and the head teller and commercial lender are both full time. While I do not make a lot of money, it is enough to pay my bills and have a little put away for emergencies (DH pays the major bills). Everyone knows that I would like to move up within the bank as time goes on, as I made this very clear when I was hired.
Well, the other teller is retired and doesn't need this job, and it is very obvious. She comes in 10 minutes before the branch opens (litterally the last possible minute ino order to get everything done before the branch opens), will only help customers if she absolutely has to (like if I have a customer and someone else comes in that doesn't want to wait), and hurries through her closing procedures to leave ASAP after the branch closes.
This makes my job harder because I'm running around in the morning trying to do everything, plus worry whether her opening stuff will get done. I do most of the transactions throughout the day when I also am the one that has to do all the audits in our branch. And she rushes me in the afternoon, for instance when I'm counting my drawer down at the end of the day. She always says she has to leave as soon as the branch closes because she "needs to be somewhere". While I do think she might have somewhere to go, I think it's rude to rush your coworker because you scheduled something so close to the closing of the branch. What if the money was off and everything had to be recounted? There would be nothing she could do about leaving. That's why everyone else in the branch only schedules things for at least an hour after the branch closes, because you never know what might come up.
Like I said, I just needed to vent. In case you're wondering, yes my head teller has also noticed. She has asked the teller about what's going on, and the teller just says, "I'm very busy. I have a lot going on." I understand if you want to be a private person, but when it's affecting your job and making it harder on your coworkers, it's a problem.
Thanks for listening!
Edited: I realized I was being rude about the holiday thing.
Re: Updated: I just need to vent for a minute about a coworker.
You don't have a leg to stand on with the holiday thing. So what that she saved her vacation for Christmas time? Lots of people do that. It was obviously approves so what's the issue? How close she lives to her family (that you know about) is not something that is a.) any of your business or b.) should even be discussed.
I was on your side until the end, but you are way out of line to be upset about the holiday stuff.
You are absolutely right about the vacation stuff. As the day went on, I realized exactly what you said. I know I should be thankful to be able to see family when I can, and DH and I will just work out a different time to celebrate Christmas with the family.
