SMBSantacruz and others with info on Seattle
Hi,
It's been a while. I hate to come on and just ask for something
but DH & I are headed to Seattle in a couple of weeks and are looking for some suggestions on must dos, must sees or must eats. We'll be there for 4 1/2 days, so we should have plently of time to get a lot in.
We'll be going to Pikes Place and the underground. We were thinking of taking some kind of walking tour: food, coffee, or just city exploring tour.

Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thank you.

I enjoyed a yummy breakfast of brioche French toast at Cafe Campagne near Pikes market. Pikes is just fun.

Yay! I hope you have a great time! Here is what I would recommend:
Plan on doing the Space Needle, but try to eat at the restaurant. Personally (and I know there are many people who disagree with me), I think the Needle itself is boring, but people seem to love the rotating restaurant.
When you do Pike, have lunch at Beecher's. It's seriously to die for mac & cheese!
I think the underground tour is a great idea. It's fun. There are also Argosy boat tours of the Sound. Have you checked out the Seattle Citypass? It's a booklet of tickets for six popular Seattle attractions: Space Needle, Science Center, EMP, a harbor tour, the aquarium and the zoo or the museum of flight.
If you like nightclubs and jazz music, I highly recommend Jazz Alley.
Of course, if you want to venture out, the islands are fun to explore. I think Coupeville is a darling little historical town on Whidbey Island. There's Deception Pass, too. DH and I just got a Groupon for a boat tour. There's also Snoqualmie Falls... extra interesting if you were ever into Twin Peaks.
Wow, can I add any more random events and places? If you don't eat breakfast at Portage Bay Cafe, you're doing yourself a disservice.
The ferry to Bainbridge (and then walk around their downtown and a meal there is nice). I think Mario Batali's parents have a deli there.
If you have a car, there's an amazing bakery in West Seattle. It's Bakery Nouveau: http://www.yelp.com/biz/bakery-nouveau-seattle#hrid:thEpmc7a8UekoHx2zkjvhQ/src:self . And I'm not really a sweets person, so I wasn't thrilled when we were meeting friends here for pastries and coffee for breakfast (I was eggs bennie!).
Again, if you have a car, there's an amazing steakhouse called John Howie Steak. Pricey (even more than a normal steakhouse) but amazing: http://www.yelp.com/biz/john-howie-steak-bellevue-2#query:John%20Howie%20Steak it's in the Bellevue mall, which is nice, so you can shop and then dine.
I haven't done the underground tour and have heard mixed revews.
The Space Needle. And I agree that lunch in the restaurant is neat. And I think you pay so much to go up but if you're dining at the restaurant, you can go up for free (well, and buy a meal). So, might as well get a meal out of it. I think I had a caesar salad and it was fine.
Ah yes. Here's my review of it:
More like 3.5 stars. And I'll do this quickly. We had two pizzas, both very good but not fantastic. We preferred the olive and grape one. this pizza gets 4 stars, but the other one (chanterelle) gets only 3.
Olives and grape pizza -- who would've thought grapes would be so good on pizza. they are.
Chanterelle pizza -- very savory. a wee-bit bland. maybe could use more salt. (i liked putting olives that had fallen off the other pizza onto this one).
I don't think there was any sauce on either one. And I love sauce. But I still liked this.
I would have punched my grandmother in the face for another slice of the yukon gold pizza.
That is all.
