Greek Life?

In the "how we met" stories, I saw alot of "he was in a fraternity" "sorority sisters" etc (more the boys than girls..)

So....flaunt em if you've got em! we can even PIP if you want (I wont be able to till I get home!)

  • DH and I met later in life. So no college connections. He was not in a fraternity but now regrets it.

I was in Gamma Phi Beta at Vanderbilt (Alpha Theta Chapter).

  • DH didn't go to college and I went to a community college so no greek life there. I was planning to go to Iowa State University to finish my degree and wanted to rush Kappa Kappa Gamma.

  • I was wondering this same thing too since several people have mentioned sorority sisters or being in a sorority.

I was a member of Alpha Omicron Pi at Bowling Green State University (in Ohio).  This is the only pic I can find right now of me sporting my letters.  We were still using film cameras then (97-01), so I don't have a lot of my college pics in digital format.

  • As far as I know, we don't have fraternities in Canada. Or, if we do, they are not very common.

I don't know how common they are overall, but the sorority I was in during college had several chapters in Canada.

  • My school was very small and didn't have any frats or sororities.
  • This might sound different to ya'll a little but I'm in one now it's a Women's Soroity. The main international known one is Beta Sigma Phi. I'm in the Austin chapter of Theta Zeta. Our chapters age is 23(me) till 34(SIL). there is 16 in our chapter. There is about 20 chapters with over 200 members in Austin. Most of them in there 50's-70's. It really is a lot of fun.
  • I went to a small women's college, so it was like one giant sorority.  I hated it.

(Also, this is only tangentially related, but I just remembered how angry the frat boys I met would get when you called it a frat instead of a fraternity. "It's not a frat...would you call your country a c*nt?"  To which I always replied, "why? Do you call your d*ck Richard?")

  • I'm a sister of Sigma Omega Chi Sorority, though it's a local sorority so I doubt anybody here has ever heard of it.  Fraternity Life on MTV did a season on a fraternity called Sigma Chi Omega that's in the same town as my college, so people used to always think we were on the show when we wore our letters.

Here's a picture from a couple of years ago when I stopped by to visit during pledging.  I'm totally sporting my geeky math nerd letters (the pattern is numbers).

I really have nothing to add to this except for that has to be one of the best comebacks EVER! LOL

  • I went to a small Christian college and we did not have any type of Greek life.  If I had gone to a larger college I probably would have joined a sorority.

  • I wasn't in a sorority. Just wasn't my thing. DH was in Phi Kappa Theta at Georgia Tech though, and I met him through a friend who now married to one of his fraternity brothers.
