Travel Questions

Do you think we would be crazy to go to Brookfield Zoo on a Sat in Aug? I was thinking of doing it on a weekday, but Brian thinks we should do it on the way to the resort we are staying at in IL. I suggested South Bend zoo since it would probably be quieter and only 1/2 hour out of the way.

Has anyone Priceline a hotel in Indy? I have in Chicago and been happy. I thought about doing it for Indy, however I'm going with my mom and she has a bad foot. I need to be careful where we stay, to try to keep walking down a bit.

Re: Travel Questions

  • Have you checked out betterbidding.com?  They give you a really good idea for what hotels you'll end up with when you bid on Priceline.

  • I would think that if you studied the regions where your hotel could be located in Priceline's system, and choose appropriately, you could get something that would work out.

No idea on the zoo because I haven't even heard of that one. :-)

Thanks. I forgot all about that site.

  • I think the zoo might be fun.  For you guys and a zillion other people.  Knowing that we feel similar about this, I'd say skip it.

  • Brookfield is really big, so I don't think it'd be awful, but I agree that a weekday would be more enjoyable.  Although during summer break it might not matter quite as much.  It may partly depend on the weather we went on a day it was just a little misty & drizzly & hardly anyone else went.  We had rain coats, so it was no biggie.

I don't have any experience with the website suggested by PP, but I usually look at the regions on priceline and compare to hotels on a map either in googlemaps or something like tripadvisor to get an idea what hotels & price points are in that area & then decide if I feel safe bidding or not.  The last time we did something like this we did Hotwire & got a really good deal.  The only problem was that we had issues at the hotel & because it was prepaid, we had no bargaining room at all for compensation.

I really like Indy & have stayed at quite a few nice places in various parts of the city & suburbs.  I haven't been to one yet that was a total disappointment.
