eyebrow waxing?

I've never had this done for various reasons, but I've noticed that it really does look tidy. I'm thinking about getting it done once, to sort of figure out what eyebrow shape is good for me, and then just taking care of growth myself later with tweezers. I don't have a clue as to whether this is a realistic idea or not, or where to go, how long it lasts, or what is typically charged for this service. Can someone point me in the right direction?

Re: eyebrow waxing?

  • I do what you mentioned--get them waxed then I pluck them here and there to keep them neat.  Normally, I get mine waxed every time I get my hair done, so every 4-6 weeks or so?  My hairdresser charges $7 for eyebrows, but I've seen salons that charge as much as $12 so it does vary.

Do you have a regular hairdresser?  Is there a salon that you would feel comfortable going to? I would start at one of those places, and tell them what you want--if you just want them "cleaned up", or if you want them to shape them for you, etc.  I would rather have my eyebrows waxed over tweezing any day!
  • I've never had my eyebrows waxed. I guess I'm too chicken they'll mess them up.

Word of advice: Do not ever, EVER use Nair on your eyebrows. I had out of control eyebrows growing up, and in 9th grade my mom decided to try Nair on them. Yeah, it was painful.

  • Ugh - I tried Nair when I was a sophomore in high school. Chemical burn I got from that lasted for days. NEVER again.

I'm getting my eyebrows waxed for the first time in April [had an appointment last weekend but had to cancel]. I'm nervous, but my sister swears by it. I'm tired of plucking - and, I'm sure I have a better shot of overplucking than getting them screwed up by someone who knows how to use wax. :P

  • The last time I got mine done I got them waxed at the Make Up Bar.  They do an EXCELLENT job.  Downside?  It's $20.  But I have never had a bad experience and she takes probably half an hour making sure everything is even and there are absolutely no strays.  I have gotten mine waxed at Cottonwood ($15?) and they've done a great job too.

There used to be the most fabulous person ever to walk the face of this planet at waxing eyebrows...Lee at Balliets.  He was incredible.  But he's not there anymore...I pouted when he left for a really, really long time.

  • I usually get mine done in a salon at the Norman mall. They use a different wax that doesn't lead my eyebrows really red for a while. It's a thick green wax and they don't have to use strips. I usually get mine done every 3 weeks and they charge ms $10 and tip about $3. In between waxes if I see an unruly hair I usually try to keep it tamed, but I have been told by some not to pluck in between waxes.
