Hey guys, as some of you know, I'm dealing emotionally with the earthquake, tsunami and nuclear disaster hitting my former home in Japan. I moved away from there in August, and left many coworkers, students and friends behind. Some are safe, many are still missing, and others are in dire need of help.
My little town is within the 80 km radius of the fukushima nuclear plant. They are experiencing low levels of radiation that rises and falls througout the day. unfortunately, they have NO POTASSIUM IODIDE PILLS in the town. The pills have been horded to Fukushima where the majority of people there are more seriously affected. It is difficult to remove yourself from this town, as the petrol stations are backed up for hours with lines of cars waiting for fuel, and the trains are not running.
However, the mail is running. My successor has asked for food boxes and potassium iodide pills to be sent to our town. I'm not sure why the gov't can't keep up with the demand, but the fact remains that they can't. I know many people in the states and Canada stockpiled KI pills because they thought they might need them (which is absurd) and there are none left in any of the pharmacies I've gone to--and they're backordered. I cannot send these inexpensive and precious pills to Miyagi where they are desperately needed because of paranoids in my area.
I'm asking for your help. Please check your pharmacies for potassium iodide pills and purchase them for my town in Miyagi. There are 40,000 people there who are being exposed to radiation every day. The radiation is currently in low levels, but it is cumulative. Also, should the nuclear situation worsten, there is almost nothing they can do to help themselves. Evacuation is difficult and a slow process. Potassium iodide only protects against the iodine, and not the cesium, strontium, or gamma rays, but it is certainly better than nothing.
Please
purchase these pills and pm me for the address in Miyagi to send them
EXPRESS POST through UPS, Black Cat, DHL, etc. As quickly as possible. Post on here if you've already found them and purchased them, and I'll send you the address for where to send them.
If you don't have iodide pills in your pharmacies, find dried kelp in your grocery store and send that. If you'd like to donate a food box, that's lovely as well.
Please please please help. Thank you so much.
