Dumb question,I know, but our "garden" has always been in several containers. Not in the ground.
What side of the house would be best to put the garden on? South or West?
South gets sun all day obviously.
West up by the house has noon - sundown for the sun
West away from the house gets sun all day for the most part but is more apt to be eaten by the wildlife.
I guess we could put it on the North side too. (House faces East)
BTW - I'm loving the kitchen garden planner you ladies suggested.

Re: Where to put garden?
My grandma has had the same garden spot for as long as I can remember. Her house faces north(ish) so the garden has alwasy been on the south side of her house.
If you wanted to do the west side, no joke the fishing line around keeps the deer out! And if you string up Irish Spring soap, they don't like that or the smell of marigolds. My grandpa(different set of grandparents here) puts up fence posts, and strings it along that way. He has some way of making it so the lines stay up, but you can take them off. I'll have to call and ask how he does that.
Our garden has always been in full sun. I should say my mom's garden, but I grew up in the country and the garden was at the edge of the field. I would probably go West as it seems like it should be behind the house. If you worry about bunnies, my sMIL just told me she bought some kind of dried blood (I think rabbit) and it keeps them out. There is of course chicken wire too. My brother has a strawberry patch that he covers with chicken wire in addition to putting it around the sides.
