government employee

I'm a government employee (civil service). I am particularly worried about all these CRA (continuing resolution act). I am worried because I think this budget crap will NEVER get figured out. I am afraid because I'm also a student, which means I do not work full time. I'm worried that in 3 weeks when the CRA congress just passed today is done, there wont be a budget at all and I will be out of a job without pay 
. Is it okay for me to be worried? Should I be looking for a job or is that premature? I don't graduate until December and then it's going to be very uncertain (I'm a History major hahaha) (and again, I'm sorry for my grammar, I dont like to use punctuation lol)

It's just...I've had a lot of unstable, temporary jobs while in college, and this is my first job I've had for longer than 6 months (generally how long my temp. jobs lasted). Granted, I lose my job come December 15th anyway (I graduate and am booted out of the student program I'm in). I know I'll be in at work on Monday morning, which is great, but in 3 weeks, things could change, ya know? I'm considered a nonessential government employee, and two days without pay is a lot to me (since I'm already paying back student loans, my fiance and I have bills, etc.) I guess I am counting my chickens before they hatch, I'm just nervous.
Ugh...my DH is a gov't employee. All I can suggest is cutting all possible expenses now (do you have cable? Cut it. Etc.) and save as much as you can. We all just have to wait and see what these assholes who think they "don't need no stinking gov't" do.

They are not going to let a shutdown happen. And if somehow they do, it will not be when the CR expires on April 8th. Tax season is still in full swing and IRS employees who process refunds are considered "non-essential" employees. The government is NOT going to halt tax refund checks being cut, people won't stand for it and Congress knows it.
It is very possible in another CR or the final budget for fiscal year 2011, that there will be a mandatory furlough for non-essential government employees. I recommend planning for a furlough and save as much as you can. If it happens, you will be prepared, if it doesn't then you will have savings.
I'm a govvy. I'm not worried about my job. A shutdown cannot possibly last more than a few days. I heard it happened in the past and employees were 'laid off' for two days. Apparently ended up getting back pay for it anyhow..?? dont know the specifics but I wouldn't worry too much.
Actually, it was a week in 1995, then the govt passed a CR with a full year Defense authorization (which took the largest discretionary spender off the debate table), and over Christmas, everyone except Defense was out of work for 3 weeks into the new year.
You can only worry about what is within your control. Like Jan8 says, do the conservative thing and put the brakes on your spending and start stocking up. Although they did it last time, Congress is not obligated to back pay feds for a shutdown, and with that in mind, I'd make sure I have money socked away to get me through a lean month.
