Vent - Just be frigging honest.

I really wish human resources and hiring managers were more honest. If they have completely ruled you out just send out the generic email saying I didnt get the job. I can live with it, its the frigging not knowing and then the really rude non-response to an inquiry that is really annoying and disheartening. And for those who say well eventually you will figure it out. While that may be true I can't really tell if I applied for the job in November and you didnt even call me in for an interview until March!

  • Totally agree with you...that's been a pet peeve of mine for years.  Unfortunately, I brought that up to my boss at my current job and now guess who gets to create all of the regret letters for people who have interviewed and those who have inquired about jobs but either don't have the qualifications we seek or we don't have current openings to fit them.

I know you're venting, but in many cases it's not a lack of honesty at all, but a lack of knowing, an arduous approval process, or a lack of funding.  Also, applying for a job at larger companies will put you into a candidate pool, so you're never really rejected, you're just waiting for the right match.  I wouldn't rule out rude or ambiguous, but a lack of honesty is IMO not the biggest issue in the hiring process.
