Anyone ever make a scrapbook?

I wanted to make a scrapbook for our cruise vacation.  I've never done one before.  I went to Michael's and found a 12x12 book that I really liked and some paper that kind of matched the book and my 'beachy' theme.

The paper didn't fit in the plastic sheets of the book, even though the paper said it was 12x12.  The paper was more like 12 x 12 3/4.  I went to Target, and I noticed their paper had the same thing.  I only found 1 package of paper at Target that was truly 12x12, and it was kind of ugly.

Is this normal?  Am I expected to cut every single sheet of paper?  Or am I just looking at the wrong paper?  Where do you buy your paper at?

TIA!

  • ok so I have never done this but my friend does and I dont think you should have to cut every piece of paper. Anyone at Michaels to ask what the deal is? Do they have crop nights at the Michaels near you for scrapbooking?

  • I've never had to trim my paper when scrapbooking. I wonder if maybe the paper you grabbed was just cut wrong. I don't think I've bought any paper at Michael's. I usually go to Hobby Lobby since it's closer to my house. I've also bought paper at Archiver's, but I try to stay away from there since I tend to spend too much whenever I go.

  • Thanks.  I'm going to check out Joann's tomorrow and maybe a scrapbook specific store.  Glad you can buy paper that you don't have to trim.

    Thanks!

  • Sometimes the pages have a little edge that is perforated that you have to tear off.  I'm not sure why they do this, but I've had pages like that.

You should check Michael's or a local scrapbook store.  They sometimes have scrapbooking days where you can go in and bring your stuff & the ladies who work there will help you come up with ideas or learn new techniques.  It's been ages since I have completed a scrap book, and there are SOOOO many new things you can do with them out there these days.  Just remember to have fun with it!!
