So, This morning was the 4th morning in a row that A woke up at 4:00am. I've tried everything I can think of to try to get her to fall back asleep, but nothing works. I even climbed into her crib and laid with her for about 20 minutes this morning. She wakes up really groggy and still seemingly very tired, but cannot fall back asleep. I've let her CIO, rocked her, brough her into bed with me, and like I said above, climbed into her crib. Nothing works. Usually around 5am I just give up and bring her downstairs and we start our day.
Anyone experience anything like this or have any suggestions as to why it may be happening? I know she is cutting teeth, but I don't think that teething is the cause of this. She sleeps like a rock all night and her gums aren't bothering her at all otherwise. When they bother her she tends to wake up several times per night unless I give her motrin. Before this started, she was sleeping until about 6 everyday. Her bedtime is between 7-7:30 each night. I've already tried putting her to bed later and it made no difference. I know it may be a phase, but I'm afraid at this point that 4:00am will become her norm.
Re: 4:00 am wakeups
It might be teething. Check her gums to see if they are swollen at all. Drew has all 4 of his molars coming through. They were affecting his sleep for weeks before I could even see any swelling. He also seems to wake up between 3 and 5. I give him some more tylenol and nurse him back down.
Have you tried giving her a sippy of water. She could just be thirsty from the dry heat. Need a diaper change, too hot/cold (ive had to stop using the fleece jammies bc he was getting too hot).
I hope she gets back on track soon.

Can you give her things to play with therefore if she wakes up she can play a bit? We have a soft book, Sophie chewy and Fisher Price crib Piano. So when Jack gets up he plays for a little and usually puts himself back to sleep. This is at 7ish though not 4. Or I give him a bottle or water bottle and he puts himself back to sleep.
What about oralgel also? We haven't had a bad teething experience (yet! knock on wood) we are 8 teeth in and only had Tylenol about 6 times total and oralgel a few times.
I know you said you've tried CIO - but, roughly how long did it last (minutes wise) because... as brutal and painful as it is to listen to (especially at 4am) if you dont let it last too long she knows you'll show up sooner or later to "rescue her"!
Connor used to wake around 4 am and it eventually moved to 3:30... and slightly earlier and earlier...
So...what if you let her CIO longer? Like even if its upwards of 30 minutes?? it is even worse in the middle of the night but sleep is better....
I so struggle with this... We've tried this... thankfully K usually wakes at about 6... but every few weeks she will pull the 4am wake time for a day or so. I've tried to leave her..but I always cave. I know if I go in and grab her and nurse her she'll go right back to sleep in a matter of 5 minutes. It's so hard when I have to work the next day... and I NEED sleep.. I always wind up grabbing her because it's the faster solution. I know I'm prob just screwing myself in the end...
Thanks for all the suggestions!
As for CIO- I've let it go on as long as 1 hour. She will cry for about 5 min, stop for about 2-3 and start up again. This goes on until 4:45-5:00. At that point, I'm up.
We have toys and stuff in her crib with her. She not waking up perky and ready to play...she still seems exhausted as if she wants to go back to sleep but can't. Her cry starts off as a whine in her sleep and progresses into a full on cry until she is wide awake and sitting up or standing. It's something I've never seen her do before.
It may be teething...I haven't completely ruled it out yet.
