So I took your advice and decided to go to a accounting place and have my taxes done since they were so complex for me. We were told to go to this place in Del City because hubby's brother went the other night and he told them we would be coming in. Now to be honest with you all I was kind of not wanting to go because I was afraid that they were going to tell me we owe like a trillion dollars, but I really wanted some tax advice and how to go about getting these done before April.
We get in there and I proudly get out my red folder with all my information in it and proceed to hand it over to the accountant. She immediately asks me if I did my taxes on turbo tax and I said yes but I didn't file them yet. All of a sudden she gets an attitude and says "for some reason it always knocks it out of the system after you do them online and then come in here". I blinked and smiled. I told her that we had to fill out an 8379 form and she says hold on let me go ask "Betty" how to read this form.
Betty comes over looks at the form I incorrectly filled out and told her I filled it out wrong, and just wanted to know how to go about finishing. Betty started yelling at us for trying to defraud the government and without asking us ANY questions told me that I will be lucky to get $50 back from the Government and not to try and claim kids that are not mine. Hubby blew a gasket and we were asked to leave.
I am so beside myself, I don't know what happened, it all happened so fast and quickly became out of control. So now I am back to square one.
Re: My day with the tax accountant.
Um, yeah, if you were trying to defraud the government, I don't think you would go to an accountant.
Find someone else. Sorry this happened!
Did you go to an H&R block type of place?
No I went to an accounting bookkeeping company. I went because the part owner knows my BIL and they went the other day and the part owner knew we were coming in on Saturday, but the wife was the one who totally flipped out and the one my DH went off on. I ended up doing them online last night and finished, but still it really makes me mad how we were treated.
So you basically went to an H&R block kind of place. I am very sorry you were treated like that. Please avoid places like these if at all possible. And I agree with boymom - go see an independent guy - aren't you the one that is filing separate from your hubby? If so, I would see a CPA to make sure you have taken all of the appropriate deductions.
