Poll: Favorite Natural Cleaning Products
Hey Ladies,
I'm looking to convert to more natural cleaning products, the chemicals in the ones I use now are just overwhelming! So what are your favorite natural cleaning products?
[Poll]
Re: Poll: Favorite Natural Cleaning Products
This is a lot of info, but it's basically everything I have saved in my yahoo notes for EF stuff/cleaning. It's all the info I found worth saving from the few books and online sources I read. HTH!
CLEANING:
* Granite: into a quart-size spray bottle, add a quarter cup of isopropyl rubbing alcohol, a couple of drops of liquid dishwashing detergent and then fill this to the top with water. This is not only the best granite countertop cleaner but also the most inexpensive.
* Toilet: spray seat and cover with vinegar. Wipe down. At least once a week, pour 1/2 cup vinegar into the toilet bow, scrub all around, and let sit for 30 mins before flushing. Keeps it clean and disinfected. For stains/odor issues, use lemon juice and baking soda (combine with vinegar and scrub well, then 30 mins and flush).
*All purpose cleaner: 1/2 vinegar 1/2 water in a spray bottle. Add 20-30 drops of 2-3 essential oils (see below)
* Cleaning Stainless steel: fill pan with hot water and soap. Boil water for about a minute. Rinse and wipe clean.
* Making stainless nonstick: season pan with olive oil and a couple pinches of salt. On medium heat, heat the pan and distribute the salt and oil all over until it burns off.
* Cast Iron: never cook anything too acidic, like tomatoes or tomato-based sauces.
Eggs never stick to cast iron.
To clean: wipe with hot water, dry it off, then rub with a cloth that's been saturated in oil.
ESSENTIAL OILS: (www.youngliving.com and www.abundanthealth4u.com)
* In a 6-8oz spray bottle, 2 drops rosemary, 4 drops lemon, 3 drops clove. Fill to top w/ distilled water and shake.. Disinfect bathroom air. Also: cinnamon, clove, lemongrass and patchouli.
* Frankincense helps you breathe better, destroys pet odors, attacks mildew, and absorbs airborne dust particles.
* citrus: soothing, reduces tension and depression
* lavender: helps you sleep, relieves stress, depression, and tension
* lemongrass: calms nerves, soothes headaches
* peppermint: clears nasal passages, repels bugs
* rosemary: enhances memory, invigorating
* pine: respiratory antiseptic, reduces anxiety and stress levels
* sage: cleansing and detoxifying, relieves mental strain and exhaustion
* Few drops of spruce, lemon, bergamot, grapefruit, or tangerine to water while soaking dishes will add fragrance and improve antiseptic properties of dishwashing liquid.
** Oils with natural antibacterial and antimicrobial properties: lemon, cinnamon, clove, thyme, juniper, sage, spruce, lemongrass, and grapefruit. Look for an all-purpose cleaner that contains at least 2 or 3 of those.
* pOWERFUL DISINFECTING PROPERTIES: OREGANO, BASIL, CLOVE, THYME ARE HIGHLY ANTIMICROBIAL, ANTIBACTERIAL, AND ANTI-INFLAMMATORY.
* Oregano can combat dangerous bacteria and treat infection as effectively as antibiotics.
* Eucalyptus radiata and tea tree oil often work better than modern antibiotics at treating certain infections. as well as destroy MRSA.
* add essential oils to cedar chips to make your own potpourri
* few drops of lavender, lemon, eucalyptus, or Dr. Young's Melrose blend in the washing machine during to wash cycle to brighten and disinfect.
* Clove, lemon, and eucalyptus in the rinse cycle for getting rid of mold on towels.

Pretty sure vinegar + baking soda doesn't = toxic gas...
I googled it though: bleach + vinegar = toxic gas

Vinegar + baking soda = cool science experiment volcano reaction that cleans.
lol, DH has a degree in secondary education for science... so we've done this experiment many times- who knew volcanoes cleaned too?!
If only I could make one big enough for my whole house...
