3 Moving Q's

Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved?

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go?

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?)

Re: 3 Moving Q's

  • Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved?  I didn't know anything about the surrounding area when I moved to GVSU for college.  I fell in the love with the campus but didn't know anything about the town it is in or the greater Grand Rapids area.

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go?  I'm not that spontaneous.  Visit, sure, but move to live, no way.  Why would I just spontaneously move my family to a place that I don't even know we'd like or that we could get jobs?

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?)  A suburb of Grand Rapids, Michigan

Well ofcourse get a job first, but other than that what would hold you back?

  • I moved to both Mass and to the DC area without having ever visited.  It was interesting both times, but worked out well.  Both were for school so it wasn't random.

ETA:  I wouldn't just throw a dart and go.  I am kind of past that point in my life right now.  I want to know where I am going.  Also I currently live in Denver, CO

  • H and I moved 45 minutes away from all our family and friends in summer of 2009.  We didn't know anything about the town and knew no one in this town. Best move we ever made.

I would never throw a dart at a map and just go. I need to at least see the neighborhoods and determine how far I am from the "ghetto". I refuse to move from one ghetto neighborhood to another.

  • Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved? I knew where the college was when I moved out of my parent's house but other than that I knew nothing. So yes, I have. I don't recommend it though.

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go?  To visit? Absolutely.

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?)  In the Bay Area in CA. North of SF.

  • Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved? Yep.  I knew of the city but nothing about it.  I adjusted.  The one we currently live in we both didn't know but we liked a house and it's away from everyone but it's great being away sometimes haha

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go? Absolutely.  H would not though (and by this I'm assuming we throw a dart at a city we don't know but would have jobs and find a safe location)  I wouldn't just pack and be like welp let's stay at the Holiday Inn and tomorrow house and job search haha

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?) Louisiana.  A suburb if you will outside of Baton Rouge and by that I mean I'm in the damn country but only 4 miles into BR from the interstate.

  • Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved?  Yep, I moved from NOLA are to Charleston, SC in 2006. Had never been there, knew no one and knew nothing about the place. Gave my mother a heart attack!

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go?  I didn't really throw a dart, but I got a job where I could live anywhere in the South East so I randomly picked Charleston. I had lived in Hilton Head in the summers and I heard Charletson was nice, so that's where I picked.

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?)  Knoxville, TN. Wish I didn't though.

  • Oh, and I should point out that with H and the military we'll be throwing darts and going often...just throwing at bases, not really cities I guess. Doesn't bother me or scare me because he'll have a job, so whatev. I'm pretty flexible.

  • Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved? i visited Maryland once before i moved.

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go? heck no. not all places in the U.S. are equal. i definitely have certain criteria that have to be met to live somewhere.

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?) in the Maryland suburbs of DC.

Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.
  • Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved? When I moved to Seattle, I really didn't know much about it than the fact that H (BF at the time) lived there. I had visited a couple times though.

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go? Not if I could help it anymore. If we needed to find jobs, and moving was the only way - we'd do it, but otherwise we'll stay here where our families are.

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?) In the suburbs of Cincinnati, Oh - but not the country :)

  • Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved? Honestly, where I am now I had little to no clue about. I used a friend who moved here as a sounding board to get an idea of it.

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go? I've always dreamt of doing something like this. If I was single right now, I'd do it in a heartbeat.. As log as Pepper could fit in my suitcase!

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?) Brooklyn, NY

  • Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved? So far no. If DH gets that promotion we might move to an area that we know little about.

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go? Like others have said on vacation sure. I'd need to know some minimal things before I picked up and moved. Like cost of living, schools, crime etc.

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?) Middle River, Baltimore County, Maryland

Anyone moved somewhere without knowing ANYTHING about the place you moved? Nope, can't say that I have.

Would you ever throw a dart at a map and go? Probably not, moving is expensive and that's a heck of a leap of faith.  I don't even know if i could commit to a vaca spot without knowing a little bit about the place....

Where do you live now? (State, country?city?)

Annapolis / Baltimore (we are in between, selling the annap condo soon), MD,   USA     Smile
