Moms-a question

I'm shopping for shower gifts for my cousin shower next weekend.  I decided to do bath stuff so I got the tub & towel set they had on the registry.  I also thought it would be good to get bath supplies (shampoo, lotions, ect.).  Is there any particular brand you prefer? Are there ones that are more natural, don't contain chemicals or are really good for sensitive skin? I know both the parents have sensitive skin so I am just going to assume that the baby will as well.

Re: Moms-a question

  • Get the Mustella baby shampoo--it's fantastic!! Helps prevent cradle cap, smells wonderful, and no tears. We use aveno creamy wash for body--Dunc's skin is dry like mine and it really helps.

  • We use Aveeno bath soap. It smells nice and is more natural than some others. I don't have any idea on lotions - personally I hate lotion and we got a ton we haven't touched. I would recommend staying away from lavender scents, though. Our pedi handouts the first couple months said it commonly causes a rash.

    This.

Jordan has always had sensitive skin. I avoid anything with added perfumes or dyes. Johnson & Johnson has a "natural" line but I'm not sure how well it works. I guess I'm not much help... :)

  • You may want to check etsy for some homemade stuff.  You might even try the Green Living board, they'll probably have a good amount of recs.
  • i use california baby and burts bees products. love them all! if you are doing a tub basket, i also recommend getting sophie the giraffe bath toy.  z is obsessed with her regular one as well but she literally FREAKS out if you try to take the bath sophie away from her.  i also like the thin washclothes.  a lot of the sets come with the thick ones but the thin ones are much softer on her skin.

  • We use Aveeno wash/shampoo and it's got a good rating for being chemical-free. People like Mustela and California Babies, too. If you want, check out the chemical rating on: http://www.cosmeticsdatabase.com/
  • I use Aveeno, body wash it's also a shampoo/conditioner.  I also use the Aveeno lotion on her. I'd also suggest getting a small bottle of Baby Aquaphor. I seem to use it a lot!
  • For the first year we used J&J soaps because they were gifted to us. I really didn't want to use them at all, but didn't want to waste them either. I recommend staying away from them to be honest, they dried out Xander's skin so much. We know use Aveno Baby for his shampoo and just switched to a new soap (I have to look up the name when I get home) for him. The new soap is a bar soap and may be a little harder with a newborn though.

  • We used Aveeno then he got a little excema on his belly so we switched to Cetaphil. Now we use Aveeno again. We still lather him up afterwards with a mixture of Aquaphor and another lotion that I can't remember the name of. Agreed Puggs, Aquaphor is wonderful.

I hear good things about California Baby, Mustela and Burts Bees.

We have enough J&J and others to last him probably the first 5 or 6 years. literally.

Cetaphil, that is what we just switched Xander over to. I love the soap on him and it doesn't even dry my hands out after bathtime is done.
