Costco Sells Wedding Dresses - Thoughts?

I had heard about this a few weeks ago - actually, my husband is the one who told me!

I was reminded to day when I saw this article posted on Money Matters that talks about it with a semi-funny picture of the "shop":

What do you ladies think? Would you have given the Costco gowns a try had they been around when we were planning?

Re: Costco Sells Wedding Dresses - Thoughts?

  • whoa, that's a bit odd. If their dresses didn't start at $700, I may have considered going there, but I found my dream dress for $425 and it was much more affordable than most.

  • Same as faith. Given the price tag, I don't think I would have gone dress shopping there.

But then again, I have never shopped at a Costco as it is. So, I don't think that'd be a place I'd consider shopping for a wedding gown at.

My dress cost way less than that too!   And I have never really found Costco useful since with two people and a small place bulk doesn't make much sense.

  • I would definitely have looked at a Costco dress.  I almost got our wedding flowers from them (and regret not doing it, in hindsight), and we shop there all the time and love the quality of everything we've bought there.  My dress was around $800 from a salon, so the Costco dresses would have fallen into the right price range.  In fact, I told my husband about this the other day, and we lamented we couldn't say we'd looked at Costco for a wedding dress.  :)  Oh well.  My dress was perfect anyway, so I'm glad it wasn't an option, or I may never have found it!
  • it's not exactly the wedding gown shopping experience I think I would have wanted. those kind of stores stress me out even if I am looking for just a giant jar of pickles. I will be sure to compare diaper prices there soon!

... me too, but Sam's Club instead...

  • Yeah, it's definitely not the dress shopping experience that most brides are looking for, but if you can get a "designer" dress for a fraction of the cost, it's worth a shot in my book.

My dress cost less than the price ranges that they are offering, too, but I would have gone just to say I did. We've bought things at Costco I would have never thought about buying from a warehouse store, it'll be interesting to see if this lasts!

  • I agree with some of the pp's: if they didn't start off at $700 I wouldn't have minded at least giving them a look.  My dress was a designer gown that was a former sample dress.  With tax it was $432 and it didn't need alterations, just had to have the bustles put on.

We have a membership to Sam's Club, but we haven't bought too much there in the year we have had our membership.  I'm guessing once we have a bun in the oven it will indeed be a good place to bargain shop for diapers!

  • I personally love Costco as they sell a nice selection of GF and organic products for great prices! :) Dh and I just spent too much there yesterday (even for just the two of us, Costco works really well).

That said, my designer gown was $700 (on sale) at David's Bridal. I really feel like for the price range they are listing here, DB beats them by a mile, offering far more dresses in this price plus those that cost less. And I am not even really in love with DB lol.
