So do you guys need to keep track of your spending receipts? I am pretty sure that you can just sinc your bank account online to get a sense of where the spending is going. I used to save all my receipts and put them manually into an Excel spreadsheet. This is just so time consuming that I have not been doing it. But I wanted to make sure that I really don't have to.
Also if you could give me just a few quick tips for getting my budget in place that would be great.
I have the software installed but I get a little overwhelmed when I start to play with it. It's not the easiest thing to use IMO.
Thanks!

Oh good glad I am not the only one! I keep putting it off b/c I am not familiar with how to use it
Hi Ladies
No need to save your receipts, you can just load them from your banking statement if you want to do it that way, or if you want to save them just throw them in every night before bed, it's my ritual.
If you can't find your bank on the list, you can download your banking statements and import them that way. When i started i got my banking statement from the FIRST day we had the account all the way through the present and imported it that way. I knew what we had deposited to start the account off with so it was pretty easy. It does try to assign the categories for you but sometimes it just doesn't know what it is, so i would say go through this month and fix it so your pie chart makes sense for you for all of March and then since you'll be adding as you go it won't be such a chore.
It is a little overwhelming at first, but in the end it will give you a good idea where your money is going. This is what made eating out almost non-existent to us. after we saw exactly how much we spend on eating out (including coffees in the morning and such) we almost completely stopped. we do still go out once a week, as our date night.
Thanks Patty. Yep, I already know that our big problem is eating out / take out, just like you mentioned! Some nights we just have no idea what to do for dinner, so we'll get take out from a local place. It's at least $30 every time we eat out. We need to plan our meals better to avoid take out.
I'll login to my bank online and see if there's a way to download my statements. Thanks for the tip.
