is professional resume writing worth the money?
After months of sending out my resume, and revamping it several times... I have really not gotten any bites.
I know it can be just cause of the industry.. but maybe it could be my resume as well. Im trying everything to get out of this rut.
Is it really worth the money to have professionals write my resume?
Re: is professional resume writing worth the money?
From everything I've heard, no.
Have you had friends/family look at it? Have you run it by folks here. Plenty of people will look at it for you and give suggestions.

OP, I am in the same situation as you. Couple of weeks ago, I was thinking it must be something about my resume even though I've had at least 6 people (friends/colleagues/even HR manager of my previous job) read it and critique it. I still wasn't getting any calls so I paid for an hour session for a professional resume writer to go over mine and honestly the only thing she said was to switch the location of my job titles/places and the date and another thing was to say X many years in Y. So use numbers. $98 dollars later, that's all the input she had for me.So personally I don't think they are worth it.
I don't think so. The thing is that it isn't so much WHAT your have done but how you SELL it.
What helped me what showing my resume to my friend's parents, or my mom's friends. Those who are educated, in good fields, basically those who had reached career levels that I am one day hoping to obtain. Their input and suggestions were invaluable and helped build a pretty darn good resume.
Is there any one further ahead in their career than you who you could ask to review and provide honest feedback on your resume? It really is all about finding the right people to ask. Some just are not good at resume writing and consequently won't add much value to your resume revisions.
As an aside, I received a resume from a young woman in her late 20's recently and was astonished at the grammatical errors, poor formatting, and general lack of quality. THe biggest problem was that she listed tasks but didn't highlight her accomplishments. I saw great opportunities for improvement. However, she didn't ask me to edit her resume, only to pass it on. So I didn't say anything. Not sure of my point here other than to ensure the grammar and formatting are in tip top shape, and that your accomplishments are strongly highlighted.
