Since MO mentioned my boy, Spitze, and I didn't want to thread-jack Ringy's Sherlock post, I decided to do my own post AWing my boy. This got a little long so if you don't want to read, simply skip to the cute photos at the bottom!
Spitze means various things in German (peak, spike, sharpen, etc.) but he was named Spitze because of his little tuft of fur/mohawk that he has between his eyes (it is difficult to see in photos). Spitze is 100% German both by birth, and in some of his mannerisms. Some examples:
- If you have ever been to Germany or dealt with Germans, you will know that they like things orderly and are pretty strict about rules. He gets very upset and is extremely vocal when things are not done according to the normal routine or when things are out of order. Seriously, it's not pretty. Brandon and I get scolded regularly for having pillows on the wrong place on the couch.
- Spitze loves beer. We don't actually feed our cats beer, however, whenever Brandon finishes a bottle he sets it in the rack and Spitze goes crazy licking the bottle top of any remnants of good German beer. Do not leave an unattended beer out around Spitze if you don't want cat germs in it. American beers are generally fine, he prefers a good dark beer.
I've posted these pictures everywhere, but they still crack me up because he is so grumpy in them. Plus, no pet post is complete without pictures, so here he is:

Re: My boy, Spitze.
Spitze is adorable! I love his little grumpy face! That's hilarious that he only likes dark beer!
This may be a dumb question
....but do did it take Spitze a while to learn to understand English? I'm assuming who ever you got him from spoke German.

He reminds me of a guy that I work with. He is from Germany and I'm pretty sure he makes that exact same face. We have a lot of German people that come into our stores and I think they are so interesting to watch. They are very particular about how they like things, especially when it comes to their cars.
I think he is very handsome and it makes me want a kitty even more!
We got our cats from a German family when they were 14 weeks and the family spoke German with the father speaking some English. I think dogs have the biggest adjustments with languages because they respond more to commands. Not sure though, it's been a really long time since I've had a dog. Like most cats, ours ignore us most of the time when we talk to them. We actually do try and speak German to them or occasionally use German accents when we speak English to them
. But we joke that the cats ignoring us or pretending they don't understand is just another German mannerism. I do want to say that I am making a ton of generalizations on German people in these posts (jokingly, of course) but I do love the people here and love this country.
Thanks everyone for the compliments to Spitze. I'll make sure I let him know!
