T-Mobile to be bought by AT&T
Looks like AT&T is going to buy T-mobile if everything is approved.
I hope all of my plan with T-mobile gets grandfathered into AT&T if the deal does go through...

There's a lot of gossip going on over on some of my phone sites that I frequent, and its pretty much looking like it will happen but it won't be quick, most likely over a year until its done. Both boards have already approved it, and its off to the next round of approvals.
This will not be good for T-Mobile subscribers because everything I've been reading is that AT & T will push T-Mobile people onto more expensive plans, require data. The only thing that they "hope" to keep is the pay as you go feature that T-Moblie offers, because that's stronger than AT&T's.
It will also not be good because it'll just push Verizon harder to do some acquisitions as well, creating even more of a monopoly. After AT&T acquires T-Mobile they'll only be about 5 million subscribers over Verizon, but it'll open the door for Verizon to buy Sprint which is what they've been wanting to do for a while. They'll probably try and pick up US Cellular first and eat away at some of the smaller competition, but if AT&T suceeds and does get T-Mobile, than there's nothing that is stopping Verizon from acquiring Sprint...which is even worse because then there will only be 2 cell carriers in the country and no competition.
I wish that the FCC or some other US regulatory agency would block the merger. Of couse, I wish they would have done that with Comcast/NBC and they didn't... so I think it's doubtful that they will in the case of AT&T and TMobile.
The customer loses out when there is less competition in the marketplace!

Yes they do, and from some of the stuff I've read T-mobile customers are going to lose big time, because AT&T already has said they'll get rid of some of the no contract phones, as well as work to push their lower end customer base on to smartphones and higher data plans...
Guess more people will move over to Sprint if they want better pricing plans if/when this goes through.
Its unfortunate and will just make things worse because Verizon doesn't like being 2nd and they will have what they need to make a case for them buying Sprint...
