Car Service

Is it just me or has anyone noticed that their car runs differently after having it serviced?  Am I just paranoid because I think that the mechanics might do something to the car so that we would need to take it back for more service?

I just got my car serviced at Honda on Saturday.  They did an alignment and I could tell because steering was smoother and my car did not veer to the right.  But then I noticed that it was running funny and it started shaking.  WTF?!?!  My car never did that before.  Am I just paranoid or is my car really behaving differently than when I took it in.

We also had an axle replaced a few weeks back and I swear as I was driving the car home, the left side was shaking more than it did before.

Please someone tell me I'm not crazy!

Re: Car Service

  • Did they rotate your tires?

A wheel balance could be off.

That is almost always what is wrong with my car when it shakes. Lately, it's been because of the nasty snirt (snow/dirt) that has been getting caked in my hubcaps because the landlord at work never plows.

    KIDDING

You're not crazy.  I've thought that too after I've taken my car in to have work done...and I've actually brought my car back for them to check.

  • It could be your tires need to be balanced. Or your brake pads and/or rotors need to be changed if the shaking is when you slow down or come to a stop. I would take your car into a tire shop and get a balance or tire rotation. A couple of tire shops around here do that for free.

I only see/feel positive changes when I get my car serviced. But I normally only take my car to my uncle who has a service shop and my H who is a technician and does my low maintenance work.

  • I wish it was as simple as just the tires, but it's not.

I was driving home and came to a stop at a stop sign.  I then accelerated and when I reached 30 mph the car was shaking and would not accelerate any more.  I was stepping on the gas and nothing.  I had to pull over to the side of the road.  Luckily Richard was following behind me.  I turned off the car and turned it back on, got back on the road and it was fine.  My car has never done that before prior to the service.  I don't know what's going on with my car.

  • id take it back to where you got it serviced and let them know there was no issue before it was in their possession and have them check out your car

    Ditto

  • Yeah, definitely take it back and have them check it again. I have no idea what could cause that but anything to do with a lack of acceleration doesn't sound good.

I'll never forget what happened the day after my standard warranty expired. I was out shopping and was still in the parking lot when my car just didn't sound right. I parked, got out and looked at all of the tires. Nada. Then I tried to turn my car off. It clicked back and I could remove the key, but the car was still running. I started to freak out and got out of the car because it was shaking and making a really loud clicking noise. This old man came over to help me and says 'I don't know what that is honey, but you should probably turn off your car." I held up the keys to show him and we both just stared dumbfounded that my car was still running. We opened the hood and flumes of white smoke started coming out before the car sounded like it was hacking up a lung and then turned off.

Turns out it was my alternator. I can't say I've ever been happier to spend $800 on an extended warranty but it sure it did come in handy that day!
