Miele vs Dyson

So it appears that all Nesties rave about their dysons. I'm just wondering if anyone has experience with Miele vacuums? I have a friend who recommends his (with 2 shedding dogs) and online reviews are great also. I'm trying to figure out which brand to do with.

TIA!

Re: Miele vs Dyson

  • I definitely recommend Miele, I love mine!
  • My mother has a miele, she loves it!  She also has dogs that shed.
  • I'd go Miele over a Dyson in a heartbeat. My DH used to be a flooring specialist and often had to sell vacuums. His feedback on Dyson's is that the components aren't always that tight sealing, which would mean that some of the dust you vacuum up is pumped right back in to the air. We looked at every Dyson on display in the area stores and they all seemed to be loose around where the tube seals to the canister.

Miele, on the other hand, seem to be very well constructed and are SO quiet compared to every other vacuum I've ever used. I'd rather spend my money there than on a Dyson.

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you for responding. So glad to hear from Miele ladies- really was getting sick of hearing about Dysons. Those Miele vacuums sure are pricey, now I just need to figure out which one I should get- there's so many to choose from and Miele's website doesn't really have a comparison chart.

    Thanks again!

  • I have a Dyson and, while I like it a lot, I've already decided that my next vacuum will be a Miele (for a variety of reasons). Let us know which one you decide on and how it works!

  • While my dyson gets the job done, i wont be buying another one. To me, it has held up far better than a cheaper brand. But when i was a nanny, i used that damn Miele anytime a could! It will be my next vacuum.

I've love to hear about your reasons. I'm already sold on Miele but would still love to hear validation that I'm making the "right" decision.

I wonder how Dyson became so much more popular than Miele?

We have a Dyson Animal (had it for about 6 years now so it's not the ball one) and it's so heavy. Honestly, that's my #1 reason...because just pushing it around 1 room makes my back hurt. It's so big and bulky and heavy. The miele I want is lighter weight. And I'm thinking of getting a canister.

I've also heard a lot about Dyson seals not working as well and spewing dust back into the air. Don't know how true this is, but why risk it if I'm spending that much $. From reviews it seems like the newer Dysons are not up to quality like the older ones were.

Miele gets such great reviews and I've yet to hear anyone complain about them. Plus from the sounds of it/reviews, they seem to last a lot longer.

The Dyson is just ok on our HW floors (we have a TON of HW throughout the house). It seems like Miele is a better option for HW.

That's all I can think of for now :)

  • Just bought a Miele canister vac.  At first DH thought I was crazy when Dyson's came onto the scene.  We tried one out and it seemed like a regular vac.  Then I used a commercial canister vac at my part time job and feel in love with them.  Through my research I stumbled onto Miele.  Granted if we would do an upright we would get a Miele S7 in a heatbeat.  The fact the handle goes to the floor is just mind blowing.  We bought the Miele Titan S2180.

I suggest you find an authorized dealer in your area and go play.  That's the best way to find out what is right for you.
