Couple of things

So Greg bought a new motorcycle in October. You're not able to test ride motorcycles before you purchase them and now that this horrific winter has thawed he's learned that he absolutely HATES the bike. It's insanely uncomfortable, his hands go numb from riding only 30 minutes.

We're on our way to another dealership now to look at other bikes. He feels like every decision he makes lately goes right down the shiitter. I feel really bad for him, his ego is taking a major hit.

But....he LOVES riding. It's his only "thing" and even if he can only get out for 10 minutes a day, he goes. The negative is because of the year changing 2010-2011 and the bike being a 2009 leftover -- he's going to take a $2k hit.

I paid my debt off (other than car and student loan of $85 monthly for life LOL), I'd love to help him with his, but we still keep our finances separate and too much of his manhood is riding on his debt.

That being said, my financial responsibility is saving a second down payment for a house (we would like to rent this one out), and saving enough so that if we take a financial hit while I'm out with the baby, it won't be "felt".

Oh and on to Baby Names - Greg is very anti-family names. He wants our child named for themselves and not for anyone else. Whatever. I want the name Jillian in honor of my Mom Mom Jill (real name: Margel May M-lastname  - no joke). He said that he'd cave and give-in but I don't want to name our child something he's a bit disappointed in....so....

We're on to Piper. Any thoughts/Opinions?

Re: Couple of things

  • I'm really sorry about his bike and think it's BS that you can't test drive it first, even though I understand why. But he shouldn't blame himself for not knowing. And I like the name Piper.
  • Ugh-that's a crappy situation with Greg's bike.  When things like that happen, you have to convince him not to dwell on the situation.  It is crappy that you can't test drive prior to buying.

  • That really stinks about the bike, but I understand it's a liability thing.  Hope he can find something he likes.

And I really like the name Piper, it's cute.

  • That really sucks about the bike.

About names - Rodgers knew I had my heart set on Nathanael and never told me how he really felt about it. He just let me have it because he knew I loved it. He chose the MN Joseph.

  • Is he not a fan of Jillian in general or just the meaning behind it? If he likes the name I say go for it and just don't tell everyone who she is named after.

I do like Piper too. I think it fits your personality... if that makes sense.

He doesn't like the idea of her being named after or in honor of anyone. The name isn't the issue, it's just the concept of being named after someone.

That's interesting. Is there a reason why, or he just doesn't like the idea?

In the Jewish religion it's VERY common (at least in my family & extended) to name after someone- usually the first initial of the persons name (e.g. instead of Carl for my grandfather, Charles, or Ava or Alexander for Arthur, etc...). My family may even be offended if I didn't...we don't  *need* to, but it's definitely what we're accustomed to.

Piper is a cute name. Not common, either. For some reason I don't picture you and Greg w/ a kid with a common name...

My a-hole know-it-all male cousin was preaching about it one day before we were pregnant. Greg seemed to latch on to his logic and it resonated with him. Greg had never mentioned this opinion he had before Matt mentioned it.

Ugh...I could have strangled him for it.

Heck, Greg is named after his birth father who died. So maybe he has some other emotional reasoning behind it, but he hasn't mentioned it.

  • DH was the same way when it came to naming Amelia.  I really like the name Elena, DH was entertaining the name until I mentioned how I liked that it kind of honored my grandmother, Elaine.  After that, DH decided that none of our children would be named for anyone.  At first he said it was because he didn't want to get slack from the side of the family the baby wasn't named after.  After months of me arguing about how silly that was, he admitted to having a deeper reason that I couldn't really argue with.  In the end, DH was the one that came up with Amelia.
