anyone take online courses through a university? when i went to penn state i took one course through their online world campus, but not a whole degree. i have been looking to go back to school and i saw that boston university offers the major i am interested in (health & pe). i was wondering if anyone completed an entire degree online. what was it like? advice/thoughts? thank you so much!
ps-i wouldn't have to go for 4 years since i already have a bachelors degree. i think it would be more like 2 - 4 semesters. not sure, just started looking into this.
Re: online courses?
I have not, but DH started his master's degree in an online program. Honestly, it depends on the class/professor. He had one class that was really easy for a full-time professional and a few that required way more work than he could give while working full time.
One thing to consider when looking at the program is also how the classes are formatted. Some schools format them so you don't have to log in at exactly the same time every week, and some you have to be in front of your computer on a certain day from a certain time to a certain time for class. One format might work better for you than the other, but you just need to make sure you know what you're getting into. DH couldn't take the ones that he had to log in at a specific time because he often has meetings in the evening and he doesn't always get to pick when they are.
I have not completed my entire degree online- just a few classes. In my opinion the online classes were a lot more work than going to class. They were very assignment heavy and included graded discussions. The tests were worth very few points if I took the tests online. Some of my online classes required me to go to campus to take proctored exams. These classes were not as assignment heavy and tests were worth a lot more points.
I enjoyed the classes that were not as assignment heavy that I could test through on campus. I hated the classes that included a ton of busy work. I have had online classes that required 5-8 hours per week of work. I would rather go to class 2 days a week for an hour than deal with that.
my program is perfect! the class is in real-time your professors call on you, you interact with classmates just like onsite classroom done via microphone and classroom whiteboard.... I've networked with classmates that live in my area
Program is offered at university on campus - 3 states away though
