Weekend/Anniversary Recap & slight AW'ing of DH

Thank you all again for all of your kind words and thoughts. Friday was without a doubt one of the saddest days if not the saddest day of our life together & the days that followed have not been much better. A huge AW for pet Doctors of America: They have been amazing and embraced us and Brodie like family. They cried with us Friday evening. On Saturday they had flowers delivered to us with a card that said "Our hearts are with you." I thought that was incredibly sweet.

With that said however, I wanted to say thanks for the awesome restaurant rec's for our anniversary. Our anniversary was actually yesterday, the 20th, but we did dinner on Saturday night at Orsay. It was amazing! For an appetizer we did one of their specials which was Pork Belly on brioche with an egg and frisee and a warm bacon vinaigrette. It was amazing, but rich and it was good that we split it. For entrees DH had the filet and I had the lobster risotto. As previous nesties stated they have amazing house cocktails as well and my cucmber lemon martini did not disapoint. Both of our drinks were quite strong, although I hadn't eaten anything since Friday morning so that may have had something to do with it. lol For anyone who has not been there I am another nestie that strongly recommends it.

For those wondering about their wedding cakes, ours was still incredibly yummy. I ate mine in my wedding dress, lol When was I ever going to wear it again?! It provided us both with a much needed laugh.

Now a little AW'ing of my DH. He has been amazing through this whole ordeal. He was strong enough, but still totally felt the pain with me and allowed me to be sad. Once we got Brodie to the vet and we sat/laid on the floor with him and started the whole procedure he helped me calm him, reassure him, cuddle him & he cried with me as we said goodbye. He took on the job of straightening up the house and slowly moving things out to the garage because I just couldn't do it myself. He's been gentle about it and done it slowly so I have time to adjust. Saturday night after the anniversary festivites, we both winded up sitting in his dog bed holding his blanket that smells like him and crying together. You've gotta love a man that can be your rock but isn't afraid to let his guard down either. He loved him very much and I know he's feeling a lot of pain.

Sunday on our actual anniversary I had to run 14 miles and it was the last thing I wanted to do. DH jumped on his beach cruiser and did it with me being my very own little mobile water/ gel station. He even hooked his Ipod up as a radio so I'd have music to run to. (My ipod starts to annoy me on long runs.) He was very upset that he had not thought to download "Eye of the Tiger." lol It was a nice morning and it reminded me again that I am a member of a very amazing supportive 2 person team. He rocks! Wink

Re: Weekend/Anniversary Recap & slight AW'ing of DH

  • My heart is breaking for you still over Brodie. I was thinking about you all weekend. I'm so glad you and your husband had time to grieve together. I'm sure it's going to be a long time before you feel comfort, and we'll all be here for you too.

It sounds like you otherwise had a wonderful anniversary weekend, and you clearly are married to a very special guy :) I love that you wore your dress eating the cake, that made me LOL. Such a good idea!

  • I'm so sorry for everything with Brodie, it sounds like such an emotional weekend for you both, but big kudos to your DH for being there for you throughout it all.

I'm glad that you guys were able to celebrate and have a nice weekend - I also laughed at the thought of you eating cake in your dress :)

  • Thank goodness I came home for an early lunch and read this because I just cried sitting here. My heart is broken for you over the loss of your sweet boy, but I am so happy you have your wonderful and supportive husband to help you through this.

  • AW all you want girlie!  Your DH sounds wonderful.  Best friends and a tight team of two all in one?  Who could ask for more.  So sorry about Brodie, but just remember you did the right thing and you did it b/c you love him so much.

  • I'm so glad you had a great anniversary despite the sadness.  I'm glad you and your H can support each other.
  • Thanks ladies! You only get one first anniversary so we still wanted to acknowledge it. Getting out of the house Saturday night was a welcomed distraction. We spent the weekend supporting eachother and you really can't ask for more than that. It will just take some time and we'll have to get used to new routines. Saturday someone knocked on the door and by instinct I waited for the barking and chaos. I think once those habits are broken we will slowly start to heal. I know anyone who has loved and lost a pet can relate. I know a huge part of us will always grieve and miss him. We were lucky to have loved him and we are lucky to have eachother. Thanks for being such an awesome group of women!

It's also really wonderful that you were still able to enjoy your anniversary weekend and just be together through all of this!
