Opinions: sent home early

H has been at odds with the boss, mistakes have been made - some are totally his fault, others were the higher ups not communicating changes to project plans.
H made a mistake today again based on incorrect plans and was sent home. Boss told him to call him in the morning
He's freaking out (and frankly so am I) that he's going to be fired.
Thoughts? Advice?

I work in HR and there are plenty of times that we send home employees for insubordination, critical mistakes and investigations.
Without knowing more details, it's hard to say if he'll be fired.
Also, not sure if your state is an employment at will state
