DH has been getting migraines since he was like 8. Today, he is on migraine #12 since the first of the month. The poor guy is having a heck of a time getting through this spell. He went to the doctor 1 1/2 weeks ago, and the doc gave him some new meds and let him know that the old doctor, who recently retired, never mentioned to DH that his blood pressure was high. We thought that might be the problem.
So, he started on blood pressure meds, the headaches continued (think a migraine every other day). He also started a steroid at the same time in the hopes that it would stop the migraines. Nothing did.
He went back last Tuesday and he doctor was reading through his file and noticed that his last MRI was 3 years ago- was not normal - a TOTAL surprise to us.
So, DH went to the neurologist today...and will be having further testing and another MRI to try and find out what's going on. Basically, he gets chronic migraines, but the doctor is trying to find out how much damage has been caused - I'm not ready to go into much more detail about the damage part here, and what is might actually mean for DH, but...
Hopefully, we get a good answer and the doctor is able to put an end to these.
In the meantime, keep DH (and I) in your prayers. This is a bit much to handle right now...with me having a baby any day.
Re: DH's migraines
Oh my! That is horrible the MRI results weren't caught.
My MRI for migranes showed increased amounts of "white matter" and a small pseudotumor that was a growth on my pituitary gland, but not one of significant size. My doc told me to lose weight and it cured them, but this seems to be the common remedy for women who suffer them. (although I think a boob reduction will help even more)
I hope your DH doesn't have anything too serious or that can't be reversed and cured. You're definitely in my prayers with all that is going on.

This sounds like a coworker of mine too, but she had to have radiation treatments to get rid of hers. Her symptom was no AF, but it's been about a year and she is already PG
--again this is of no help to your DH.
I hope he finds a way to control them. He was doing really well and hasn't had an episode like this in about 3 years - since his last MRI. He gets them clustered like this, but this is most definitely the worst cluster he's had since I've known him. We control them a lot with his diet, but he still gets them. He's tried just about every medication out there for them - since he's been getting them since he was around 8 years old (no joke). No one has ever really given him a reason or found a way to stop them. He's really starting to feel defeated this time around, which makes all of this even harder.
The specialist that he saw today made it sound as though he'll figure out what all has been damaged (if anything) and go from there. Once he knows the damage and gets the results from his EEG, then he'll have a better idea of what should help. We're keeping our fingers crossed.
I tried to reply to this last night but somehow couldn't. I am thinking of you guys and praying! I get migraines and they are horrible, most people do not understand how debilitating they are. I am appalled that the old doctor didn't catch the irregularities on the MRI. Glad the new doctor was able to. Praying that the damage is minimal if at all and he is able to get rid of the migraines, also patience and strength for you!
ditto this!!!!
