For those with babies where did you get your crib? I have my eye on a ridiculous overpriced crib from Restoration Hardware. I just love it. DH had offered to build me a crib just like it which I love the idea of, but after reviewing all of the other things that need to be done before this baby arrives I am not sure if time will allow for it. We want something quality that will last because we plan to have more children, and would like to be able to reuse the furniture. Has anyone gone to that baby warehouse place in Reading?
Re: Cribs
We don't have a crib yet nor an idea of one-- we stopped by RH yesterday though and picked up a catalogue.... we won't be getting one of their cribs but for sentimental reasons, the baby will get something from there... that's were DH & I met
. I have no idea what type we even want. I think I need to see some in person to compare.
I scouted the websites but ended up finding the same one on amazon for a lot less. Plus it was free shipping. It is a convertible, we'll change it to DS's "big boy bed" until #2 makes it's debut then use it all over again.
It was not really expensive. Honestly, it's going to get chewed on, peed on, spit up on, and he'll be banging toys on it before too long!
Craig's List! We got our crib and changing table for $150. It's a Childcraft Legacy set, which retails for about $1,500 brand new. The crib is convertible to a toddler bed, and we have the hutch that goes over the changing table.
Since I don't know if I ever PIP'ed my nursery, here it is:
DH really didn't want to buy the baby furniture off CL and here was my argument: People don't get rid of baby furniture because it's ruined or old. They get rid of it because their baby is too big (a lot of people are one and done) and there is a lot of like new furniture out there. So when I found this set, I asked them to send me a picture of the label so I searched to make sure there was no recall on the crib.
We got our crib from Babies R Us. We got the Delta Duval in the dark brown. We liked the simplicity of the design and didn't need any fancy bells or whistles (Didn't realize until after we got it that it was a 3-in-1 convertible .... we had talked about convertibles but figured by the time we were ready to convert it we would probably be on # 2 and be looking for a "big girl bed" anyway). It is really sturdy and wasn't overly pricey. What's really funny is that at our shower when I unwrapped it my cousin and my friend both go ... "wait ... I have the same crib!"
As a complete aside .... for changing table ... we opted to just put a changing pad on top of a dresser so that it could grow with her. I didn't see the point of buying a changing table that would only be used for a year or 2 and then need to be replaced.
Thanks Kiwi. We are going to put a changing table downstairs in the living room, and then upstairs in the nursery we are going to build something in. We have very limited space so we need to try to maximize.
No I don't think so. We are so limited on space that I feel like if we get a regular changing table with shelves I would be better off. If I get a pack n play I would have to also have some sort of storage system in the not so near future for toys and things to keep downstairs.
I am thinking of getting one of those co-sleeper type bassinet things...they sort of look like a pack n play only they attach to the side of your bed, and then you can adjust the height. I read that some of them can basically be used like a pack n play in case we need to go to the in laws or something. What do you think?
We had the fisher price rock n play sleeper and it is amazing. AMAZING. DS sleeps so well in it. Even some nights (like last night) when he is struggling to go back to sleep after a feeding, I pop him in the rock n play and he goes right to sleeo.
But, next baby, I want a co-sleeper. We did a lot of bedsharing at first, and I never thought we would. I think a co-sleeper is a much better option rather than having him in bed with us all the time.
We honestly don't use our pack n play very much, and we've actually collapsed it at the moment because now all the CDs and cloth wipes and accessories are in DS's bedroom, so I only do diaper changes in there. But one of my friend who has a 19 month old said once LO starts sitting and crawling, the PnP is really good for keeping them contained when you need to leave the room. So hopefully we'll get good use out of it in the future.
