Doctor Recommendations for Newbie in Twin Cities

HELP!  I've been living in the Twin Cities for a few months and am in serious need of a doctor.  I know this is kind of a personal matter but am really uncomfortable just picking the first doctor I find so offices or people you can recommend would really help put my mind at ease.  While I am definitely interested in being affordable, I want to make sure I'm going to a good doctor.

I am need of a general doctor (for a cold or my ear aches), a gynocologist and a chiropractor (just occasional back adjustments).  I would greatly prefer a female doctor for the first two but am indifferent when it comes to the chiropractor.  I live in the St. Paul/Roseville area.

Any suggestions for places to go, or even places to avoid would be SO much help!

Re: Doctor Recommendations for Newbie in Twin Cities

  • I love my primary doc. Erin Micallef at healthpartners white bear. I found her by luck after my previous doctor (who I loved) left practicing to teach at the U.

I also love my OB (enough so that I drive to Hudson to see him). Dennis Hartung at Hudson Physicians. When I called last week because K had the flu and her pedi recommended I also get tamiflu, he called in the order right away, and then called twice during the week just to see how we both were doing. I love that he is very much a "it's your call" ob. He'll be as hands off or hands on as you need/want him to be. He's one of the top docs in the country for VBAC, so if I decide to go that route, I know I'll be in excellent hands.

Oh, and I swore I would never ever in a million years see a male ob. I'm so glad I met with him anyways. I can't imagine seeing anyone else.

  • My mom, sister and myself all use Dr. Sonia Helmy at Health Partners in Woodbury.  We love her.  She is personable and will spend as much time as you need in the appointment.

  • I just switched clinics and have only been to a new OB for my yearly exam.  She seemed nice but it was only like a 10 minute appt, so don't really have much to base it on....not sure I can make a recommendation based on my experience.  But in any case.... Fairview Riverside Women's Clinic.

As far as chiropractors go, I went a few years back to Langford Clinic in Highland Park and was pretty happy there.  I stopped going due to an insurance change and chiro not being fully covered anymore.

  • I don't have any North/NE suggestions for you - but if you are willing to go to Edina, Southdale OB/GYN Consultants is where I go and I have liked all doctors that I've seen. My Chiro is in Bloomington - Normandale Chiropractic.

  • I love my Chiropractor. He is on Grand Ave in St. Paul. Dr. Josh Hague. (We call him Dr. Josh) 651-292-0050. He is very personable, easy to talk to, easy to get an appointment with (same day, usually) and NOT PUSHY.

    Married: October 11, 2008
  • I've had GREAT luck with Robyn Tabibi at the Healtheast Roselawn clinic.  I go to her for my general doctors questions as well as my yearly ob/gyn stuff.

    She's personable and really nice.

  • I love my gyno, Dr. Lisa Shakerin at www.oakdaleobgyn.com

I have had the same chiropractor for 5 years, Dr. John Harrison, (612) 267-5435, at In Balance Chiropractic & Acupuncture.  He is located in Edina.

  • I cannot rec. my ob/gyn enough. Dr. Eric English. You can see him in St. Paul, Woodbury or Maplewood. He's through Metro Ob/Gyn. He's even been on the show The Doctors. =)

Honestly, he's amazing. He's a younger doctor who is very talented and has a great bedside manner. I've always felt 100% comfortable talking to him about anything. He ended up doing my c-section and made the whole thing a lot less scary.

When was he on The Doctors?

I second Dr. English.  I've seen him when I was pregnant with both of my children and after for my annual exams.  Although he's a male he makes you feel very comfortable and is very laid back.  I know his wife from church and they are a great family.
