I see a lot of comments from people who either hate their jobs, or say that they are watching tv all day or doing errands and it sounds like 1) people are unhappy at work 2) a lot of people are unemployed or something? because i am really nosy, what do all of you do for a living? no need to give company names, but i am just curious what you do (especially those of you who seem to make comments about not going to actual work during the workweek--so jealous)?
i work for a medical software company as the business administrator. i run the show a lot and travel as almost every medial school in the country uses our product. hence houston last month, boston this month, new mexico next month and toronto in may
Re: i'm nosy
I'm a Speech Therapist in a school system but contracted out so I don't get paid by the state. Since I'm at 3 different schools, I'm constatly going to one school or another and most of the time, people have no idea I'm even there (which is good and bad). I LOVE my kids but I don't like working in the schools (however, the breaks are nice and would be even nicer if I was paid for them).
Ideal job, would be a pediatric medical center or privately owned placed where the majority of patients were babies/children.
I coach figure skating and am contracted through our local club, but am free to go to other places to coach. Our season just ended here and I have a few months before I have anything again. I also work in a restaurant part time to supplement the skating income and am planning on going back to school for a DPT soon. DH is a journalist and works mostly nights on the sports desk and puts the paper together. We have our days to do all of our errands and I have a lot of "free" time to do whatever I desire. I love it.
I work for an auto title company. We title and register vehicles for dealerships when their buyers are out of state. For example, if I go on vacay in FL and buy a car, that dealership would call my company to register my car in CO. I used to be in customer service (on the phones w/ dealers & DMVs), but now I'm over in IT. I update our web quoting service and we're redesigning out website (using the cloud, I'm so excited!), so I'm working w/ that a lot.
On a side note, my CS supervisor is the biitch from hell and is still making me miserable, even over in IT. Deb-I almost put my notice in today too. I was waiting for DH to wake up so I could call him and hash it out. Then I spoke w/ our owner who calmed me down. Overall, I love the company and what I do, it's this heinous woman, who is not smart, but in charge, that is driving me BSC.
I work for a project management firm as the marketing communications manager.
If the economy was better I'd be looking more. It's a nice place to work, but there's no challenge for me here.
i work for an electrical supply company that's got several locations in the southeastern states. i do all the admistrative work since im the only office person at my current location, which have 7 other employees. the new store ill be working at will have 33 people and ill be doing more extensive admistrative work and event planning too, which will keep me busy during the day.
right now, i dont have much work so yep, im on TN all the time
I work as an office manger at a preschool. I do lots of different things with running a preschool. I have busy and slow times through out the year depending on what we are gettting ready for or if we just finish something. I am at a slow time right now, which allows me to TN alot at work.
I also waitress on Saturday. It's good money for the 4-5 hours I work and Greg has always worked Saturdays so it gives me something to do and now I get to work with him and actually get to see him.
I am a project manager at a renewable energy firm. I loooooooove my job.
Up until last Feb, I worked as a construction inspector/engineer at a small firm (with no HR dept) and it was awful. I was easily working 80 hours a week and I was salary, until I looked into labor laws and had to threaten legal action to get over time. I was alternately forced into a management position and then dropped back down whenever they hired a new manager, who would inevitably get fired or leave within 3 months. I got into daily screaming matches with my boss and a couple of the managers. They laid me off for the "slow season" and that was the kick in the ass I needed to find my current job. I was offered my old job back the same day I got offered my current job. My current job wasn't ready for me to start for 4 weeks, so I went back to my old job for 2 weeks and then quit. The look on my boss' face when I quit was priceless. Especially when he asked me if there was anything he could do to make me stay and I just laughed.
The Princess of Anything is Coming!
Had a dream I was queen.
Woke up. Still queen.
I'm an assistant editor on a reality TV show. Because full HD quality footage takes up too much hard drive space, the editors work in a lower resolution. Most of my job revolves around converting the footage back to full quality and handing off to another editor (who then preps it for air). I also do a lot of little things, like helping to manage our server, and working on smaller things required by the network.
My job is extremely repetitive and my boss has no idea what's required to do certain tasks. So I'm often asked to several things when I don't have time or, in most cases, resources. Half of the time, I'm running things simultaneously on 2 different systems. While I am actually doing stuff, it's mostly babysitting. So I spend a LOT of time on the internet while stressing about getting stuff done.
This is not the type of show, or job role I'd like to be working on. And between that, and the stress caused by my boss (who is like Jekyell/Hyde), I'm over it. I just have to figure out where in the world of post-production I want to be.
My business cards say that I'm a financial coordinator. But I handle everything accounting and payroll related for a small family owned concession-type company. When I'm not doing those things, I'm doing my coworkers jobs which has increased a lot recently, and the reason why work is making me crankier and crankier.
My actual job description, I love. The owners, I really like. The personal days, vacation time and flexibility, amazing. Doing my coworkers jobs - not at all.
Married / The Cookaholic Wife

I'm probably one of the ones Shauni is talking about who doesn't always work during the regular work week. It is sometimes a good thing, most of the time though, not so much.
I am a certified teacher, I can teach all subjects K-5 and English up to 8th. I also have an Early Childhood Endorsement so I am more marketable/trained for the younger kids.
That said.... I can't find a full time classroom of my own after five full years since earning my degree, so I substitute teach in various districts in my county. That's why some days I am home with no job. I also waitress on the side (about 20 hours a week, mostly Thursdays and Saturdays) to help cover groceries/gas/etc since I can hardly pay my bills even IF I get a job every available day.
