I forgot to tell you guys this story earlier in the week. I almost had a heart attack.
This past Sunday was LittleP's 3rd birthday party. We had it at a kid's gym place in College Point. LittleP specifically requested an ice cream cake. He didn't want much to do with party planning but he was adamant about ice cream cake. Simple enough.
We ordered a ginormous cake from Carvel, down the road from the gym place on 14th Avenue. It was enough to feed 22 kids and 40 adults. (BTW, I can't wait until these kids are old enough that you can drop them off at a party, or have their friends dropped off so I don't have to keep feeding all of the parents!)
Sunday morning, 25 minutes before the party started we pull up in front of Carvel and there is yellow Fire-Do NOT Cross tape all around the building, the front windows are busted out, part of the wall is on the sidewalk, there is debris all over the sidewalk and a cop car is stationed out front with its lights on. And I almost DIED!!!
LittleP burst into tears, yelling "My cake, my cake!"
I had MrP park in the lot in the back and I ran around front and talked to the cops, doing my best hysterical mom. While I am asking about what happened a man got out of a van parked behind the cop car and asked, "Did you order the cake for today? Follow me." He was the owner of the place. Apparently overnight a car drove through the front of the building and caused all kinds of structural damage and knocked out electricity. But the freezers were on a back up system!!
They were there waiting for insurance adjusters and contractors and whomever else they would need. And they were waiting for the 10:30 cake pick up!! Fantastic people they are!!
LittleP's cake was safe!! And they had it for me. Luckily I had put down a big deposit, because the credit card machine was out of service and I had minimal cash on me! LOL!! And I had at least 20 new gray hairs.
Re: My almost Cake-Tastrophe!
Wow! Thank God it worked out in the end. Sadly the only thing that amazed me is that Little P is 3?!??! Where the heck did the time go by so fast? Happy Birthday Little P!

Aww.. Well done!
So glad that everything worked out for his birthday. Poor baby was probably panicked over his cake. I love that he's so easy going that all he cared about was the cake. Very cool.
wow, that was an event! I know that Carvel well, i grew up in College point. Good to know they run a good, responsible business!
I was really pleased with them. They were very kind to me considering their store was a disaster area. They are great people. Very "mom and pop."
And, yeah, he is a boy after my own heart, too. He was so distraught over his ice cream cake he was LOSING IT! I don't know where he gets it from. he he.
