Shark steam mop users, come on in

Can you give me your honest thoughts? I've seen it mentioned a few times now and I'm intrigued. I have never been able to find a mop or wet swiffer-like product that I felt worked well. I always feel like the floors are still dirty and that I have to get on my hands and knees to scrub certain spots. If we get this house (fingers crossed), the whole first floor is tile so this is a situation I'm definitely going to have to rectify!

Re: Shark steam mop users, come on in

  • I'm curious about this too. Right now my routine is to vacuum the floors to get the dog hair and dirt up and then Swiffer mop. I'm not opposed to using the chemicals on the floor and I know that is an advantage some people think of when using a Steam Mop. Obviously, that doesn't really matter to me so is there any other reason that I should look into the steam mops? Somebody tell me there is something that will make my life easier!

  • You still have to sweep/vacuum first (especially with pets!) but I like it much better than a swiffer. It is sturdier and gets the floor much cleaner. Also, for tough spots, you just prime the handle a few times and let it sit on the spot and it comes right up. No scrubbing needed. I also especially like that the pads are reusable and I'm not using chemicals. The model I have has two sided pads, so you just flip it over instead of changing the pad. It also has two different attachments, a rectangular one and a triangle. The Triangle is perfect for using in our tiny bathrooms.

Seriously, I love this thing. I hate mopping, but I like using the Shark.

  • I have bamboo floors in most of my house and laminent in the kitchen and bathrooms. It works great on all of the surfaces. I like that I'm not using chemicals and like Fawn said it works great even on tough spots. I don't know how well it works on tile and grout. My MIL had a Shark and hated it but she has tile throughout her house. She wound up getting some other machine specifically for tile and grout cleaning.

I hate mopping but with the Shark it's not too bad. I have a 1250 sq/ft house and with the model I have I have to fill up the water twice to do the whole house.

  • It might help to know about my flooring. Big Smile

Pergo (living areas): Works really well but you can't leave it sit in one spot.

Tile (kitchen, foyer, bathrooms):  I don't really know about the grout b/c our grout is dark to begin with, but it is GREAT for tile floors. Mine are kind of textured and it gets into the cracks well, especially if you prime it over trouble spots.

  • I agree with both of these ladies. I use to hate mopping but now I don't mind it. DH will even mop now which he would never do before. We have pergo and tile as well.

  • I like it a lot. Like pp said, you need to sweep first because the hair and fur just ball up in the steam and it's gross. But if you sweep, then mop, it pretty much gets everything.
  • Thanks ladies. This definitely sounds like something I'd love. I don't mind sweeping first, I just find that mops in general don't get the floor as clean as I'd like. I think we'll be investing in a steam mop soon!

  • I'm late, but I love ours.  It is a PITA to clean our floors downstairs - it's all hardwood and tile - but this makes it go SO much faster and they look really great afterward.
