Sort of AW: DH's selective memory

So we're driving to dinner and somehow it comes up that he doesn't know some of my family members names (there are literally 9 names to know, whereas he has 20+ I have to remember). It's a little frustrating that he doesn't remember names/dates, but I'm kinda used to it.

Then at dinner, we're talking about a food safety course he has to take that I took a few years back. He was asking where it was, and what I remembered from it. Then he said, "All I remember is that you saw a bird that reminded you of your grandma." She had passed away about a year prior, and she loved birds. My dad and I think she comes around a lot as birds (we've both had some really weird bird experiences).

It was such a random thing from so long ago, I couldn't believe he remembered it. It really meant a lot to me that he remembered, though.

Just wanted to share :)

  • That really is really sweet. My mom thinks the same thing about my grandma. We had a weird bird experience right after both my grandparents' deaths.

  • That is so sweet!  My DH is the same way with dates and names so I know how you feel.
  • That is really nice!  How sweet of him.  And I think all men have a block on names and dates!

My family also has the same thing about birds with my grandmother - cardinals, specifically.  She would always pray near the same window, and often a cardinal would come and sit just on the other side of the window while she was praying.

I remember on Mother's Day many years ago, my parents and I were sitting outside talking, and a cardinal flew up and just kind of sat there with us.  My dad just said, "you came to visit us on Mother's Day, huh Ma?"  And he disappeared for a while after that.
