Anyone garden?

I'm starting small and hopefully doing an herb garden in a big pot on the deck.

I know I want to do basil, but I'm not sure what else to plant.  I want things we'll use and our neighbors have rosemary, but those plants get so big.  Mint is also very invasive, so I'm not sure if I put it in a pot, if that will help.

Any suggestions?

Re: Anyone garden?

  • I do, but we don't do any herbs, just veggies.  I'd do basil, parsley, and thyme.  I don't use mint, so I wouldn't personally plant.
  • I have a huge herb garden so I pretty much have everything including lavender. My favorite is Dill so I have lots of it. I also have Parsley, Rosemary, Thyme, Oregano  and more. I do not have Mint.

There is noting like fresh herbs

  • We don't have a garden, but if we did we would plant the following:

Basil, mint, parsley, dill, thyme, rosemary and oregano.

  • I agree with the basil, rosemary, oregano, thyme, parsley.  Also we have had good luck with cilantro, we use it a lot all year so that gets planted multiple times throughout the summer.
  • Thyme is very easy to grow and does well with sunshine!  I just planted basil and italian parsley in an window box that I will move outside once it gets a little warmer at night.
  • sage, cilantro, chives....
  • I plan on doing the same this summer, since I dont want to get to into the flower gardening this year. I have mint already planted that comes back... we drink a lot of mojitos in the summer. I even have a chocolate mint. I would do anything you cook with, my mains are basil, oregano, dill, and thats about it:)
