Favorite book as a kid? Yours or your kidlet's...

My friend from home is having a book-themed shower (book instead of a card), and I'm trying to think of some of the books I liked as a little kid, but the only one I've come up with that isn't out of print is Blueberries for Sal. I'm trying to think of ones that aren't SO popular that she'll get 6 of them (so not the more common Dr Seuss or Goodnight Moon etc)....

What were your faves? Or your kid's faves?

  • I have a favorite book in mind and can't remember the name for the life of me. It's about a fish that gets together with lots of other fish to become a big fish. The illustration is all in watercolor. It's driving me NUTS that I can't remember. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

    The Rainbow Fish?

Although, that one is about sharing, so maybe not. It is all illustrated in watercolor though.

I'm not sure what book you're talking about, but you made me remember another one: The Fish Who Could Wish!

  • I just thought of another one! The Knuffle Bunny series. All the backgrounds are photographs of Brooklyn, with the characters drawn in. It's very, very cute.

  • As a kid, I loved The Bearnstein Bears books and also any pop-up books where the images lifted off the page. I think I enjoyed them because they were interactive. But I have to admit "Oh the places you'll go" by Dr. Seuss is timeless.
