Mexico Travelers?

Has anyone vacationed there? Where did you stay? H is due to find out his vacation time soon and I really wanted to look into going there. Any info would be great! TIA!!

Re: Mexico Travelers?

  • DH and I went to Cancun on out Honeymoon and stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres. I highly recommend this place! We can't wait to go back. It's couple only...no kids...all inclusive.

  • I've been a few times.  We were just there in February for a wedding.  We stayed at the Now Sapphire Resort in Riviera Maya.  I liked it.  Generally, I am not a fan of Mexico nor all-inclusives, but we enjoyed this place.

  • We went on our honeymoon and stayed at Iberostar Grand Pairaso in the Riveria Maya.  It was amazing.   We've been to several all-inclusives and this one has had the best food by far.  It's about 20 minutes outside of Cancun.  It was nice and spread out with several pools... an activity pool and a quiet pool, an indoor pool...  There was lots of restaurants and bars.  There was no problems getting chairs by the beach or pools (like when we were @ Sandals in St. Lucia you had to get up at as.s crack to get a 'good' seat), drink service was often on both the beach and pool... It was adults only but they had a few other properties connected that are family resorts and you can go into them and eat or hang out if you want but they can't come into you not even adults.

  • We went 2 years ago and stayed in Riviera Maya. It was an all inclusive- I *think* it was secrets? It had a seashell logo that I remember. The hotel was really nice, the food ok I wanted it to be like La Bamba everynight and they offered a lot of americanized cuisine.

I love mexico but with the crazy drug war going on there H and I wont be going back for awhile

  • I stayed somewhere in Cancun years ago.  It was nice and full of debauchery.  Depending on what you're looking for, you may want to consider Arizona.  I just got back from a short trip there with DH.  The weather was beautiful, prices great, and activities numerous. I was surprised with the quality and quantity and the restaurants- the cuisine was varied and delish. I've also been there in summer when it's super hot and still had a fabulous time.

If you're just looking for lounging by the pool with cocktails, Mexico is great, but I'd be hesitant to do excursions depending on their location.  Sadly, the violence is escalating there.   So, if you were looking to be out and about on the trip and not confined to the resort, AZ may be something to consider.

I don't think you are going to find La Bamba food at any all-inclusive.

I've been dying to go back to Mexico too but B feels the same way and wants to stay away until things settle down.

  • I haven't been to Mexico since going to Cancun for Spring Break in college but I'd be a little hesitant right now with everything going on unless you're really just staying at the resort the whole time.  I would rather a place where I could go out and explore a little on my own.  Do you know what you were looking to do when you were there?
  • DH and I went to Puerta Vallarta a few years ago and loved it! The beaches aren't as pretty as Cancun (went there when I was in college) but the area is really nice. A lot of history and culture and great nightlife and restaurants. It is more Mexican and less American (which is what I thought of Cancun) We stayed outside of the center of the city at the Casamagna Marriott which is walking distance to the harbor. DH and I to this day say that this was our favorite trip.
  • We went to Aventura Spa Palace in Riviera Maya and absolutely loved it!! Would definitely recommend it! It's all-inclusive and is split into two separate resorts (though you can use both) for adults-only and kid-friendly.

  • We stayed at Aventura Spa Palace 5 years ago and loved it!  We are going back to Cancun in 2 months and staying at Moon Palace.  I have heard good things about the Excellence resort in Cancun also.

PS - Aventura Spa Palace is going to have a deal on HauteLook this weekend!!  Check it out!
