Legal Resume Question

Hi everyone!

I'm a 3rd year law student, and I'm filling out my first application for a full time position.  It's for an assistant county attorney position in a small county.

They have an application form, and said I could attach my resume as well.

I'm mailing in the application, because it looks from the posting like that's what they prefer.  Should I include a cover letter?

This is the first job I'm qualified for/interested in that I've seen pop up in more than six weeks so I don't want to screw it up doing something stupid.  My instinct is to include one just in case.

Re: Legal Resume Question

  • Definitely include a cover letter. Your resume probably isn't tailored to the position, and since you're in law school, your resume probably looks like 95% of the other law student resumes. Using the cover letter to explain to them why you are such a good fit for this position, and what skills/attributes you bring that separate you from the other applicants.

  • That's what I figured. Thanks!
