cleaning the toilet, what do you use?
I currently use the clorox toilet wand, but would like to start using something more"green". do you all use a brush and cleaner?how do you keep the brush from getting gross? thanks
Re: cleaning the toilet, what do you use?
Ecover is my favorite "eco" cleaning brand. Cuts grease & dirt and smells great! I use the lemon scent.
Congrats on being a conscious-consumer and a better steward of your environment.
What you flush down the toilet ends up in the ocean!!
This.
I'm pretty green so for quick clean ups I do a couple drops of dishsoap a shake of baking soda and a splash of vinegar.
Swish and let sit until the next flush.
I'll admit though that about once a month or so, I dump a little bleach in the toilet and scrub. It's one of the few things that works so good I can't give up!
I gave mine a really good clean with bleach.
Then I bought a cheap brush at walmart and I keep it by the toilet in a vase (instead of the container it came it)- that way I can put water and I put the left over from my shampoo or body wash bottles. (You know the stuff you have to put water in the bottles to wash out). I clean my toliet once every morning while I'm getting ready. Some days I clean it before I go to bed too- if we have guest at the house that day (only one bathroom blah). And when I say clean I mean I run the brush around the bowl and sometimes around the under seat.
Then about once a week I take vinegar water and a microfiber cloth and wash the back of the toliet and the lid.
I use a Flylady tip, since I clean my toilet every other day.
I use old shampoo that I hate to wash the bowl, along with a bowl brush.
I am using up a container of Lysol wipes from my old non-green days to clean the rest of the toilet.
I can't NOT use bleach or lysol in/on the toilet.
This is what I do. About once a week I sprinkle in some baking soda and about a cup of vinegar. Scrub and let sit for 30 mins before flushing. If I want to add some deodorizer/antibacterial stuff, I add in a few drops of essential oils.
About once a month I use bleach, just in case. Honestly though, I don't ever have rings around the toilet or smell anything and it all looks nice and clean.
My method isn't green, so I don't think you want to use The Works, but I use a regular brush. It looks ugly and gross, but it's cleaning a toilet, so who cares if the brush is gross? Dh tried to get me to use a disposable one, but I didn't go for it.
Just hide it somewhere and no one will know what it looks like.
I have had a clorox brand toilet brush that has never gotten gross...I've had it a few years and it still looks new...I clean the toilet at least once a week with lysol or clorox toilet cleaner (not so green) but I assume the brush would do just fine with whatever "green" method you choose.
ETA: It is not disposable, just clorox brand.
We use a brush and I usually just use the antibacterial dish detergent from the kitchen to be honest. I hate the smell of bleach cleaners.
I usually hot water rinse the brush in the tub with more soap after, then clean the shower/tub last with a scrubby sponge and the same soap.
