The Universe Hates me- kinda long
With everything going on in Japan, I've been a nervous wreck for the past two weeks. This last Friday, my Gma called to say she wasn't feeling well and her hay fever was acting up. We took her to Kaiser and she was immediately admitted to the hospital with pneumonia and a bladder infection. Since my parents are in Japan, I get placed as power of attorney to carry out all medical directives.
Yesterday was Gma's 93 birthday. We snuck in some cupcakes and she already had balloons delivered. We had a tiny little party and went home. This morning I got a call from Gma's doctor that if able I should come to the hospital. She had stopped breathing on her own and was on a bag. Since her directive was no extra measures and no intubation, she only had a few more minutes. Sam and I made it to the hospital and she took her final breaths in my arms.
My parents are trying to get on a flight out of Japan, but that may not be till Thursday. Until then, I have to be in charge of the planning. I feel so underprepared for all of this. I don't know what to do.

Oh, I am so sorry. T&P to you and your family. At least you were able to celebrate gma's B-day with her, and you will always have that fond memory. Stay strong.

kaz, you poor sweet thing, you. sending you a serious virtual hug. so glad you got to be with your grandmother during her final days, hours, and breaths. for me, it was very helpful knowing that i was holding my grandmothers hand when she died. i could not imagine handling all of this though with your parents stuck in japan. sending you lots of thoughts, prayers, energy, and support.

I'm a bit late with this, but I am truly sorry for your loss. I hope you find peace knowing you were with your grandmother in her final moments. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family!! Keep strong!
