Hey ladies! I hope everyone is starting off great on this overcast Wednesday. I still can't get over the fact that today we are in the upper 60's and then starting tomorrow our temps will drop a good 20 degrees! I'm so ready for spring to get here and STAY!
Not too much going on in this side of camp. Going back to the chiro tonight to discuss my xrays, course of treatment, and getting my first adjustment. Nervous about that but also very excited. It would be great if I could get rid of this constant pain in my shoulder! Going to the PCP tomorrow to get blood drawn and a bunch of tests done. Hoping that when its all said and done I will have a more definitive answer on what's going on with me and my body so I can start feeling more like myself again!
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
Re: How's your Wednesday??
I agree abt the weather! Thats just pure crap! ARGH! haha
My day hasn't started out great! But I'm sure it will get better. 59 more days until DH comes home! haha Yup I got the count down going! Lame I know! O well!
Hope everyone has a great day!
Not lame at all! I do the same thing! I love count downs; I feel like it gives you something to look forward to!
Well....the news from my doc today could have been worse, although not much!
I have what's called a stress reaction - the MRI showed a lot of fluid built up inside the lower part of my shin bone, which means I was well on my way to a stress fracture, and explains why I hurt. Oh, and I have shin splints, but I knew that.
So at this point, at least until I can walk without pain, I have to treat it like it IS a fracture. So I'm limited to any exercise where my foot is not in contact with anything. No biking, no elliptical, no extra walking, no pool jogging; I can only swim if it doesn't hurt. Yoga is still ok. No running for a good month.
I start PT next week and hopefully that'll be my best bet for recovering as quickly as possible. Right now, I'm at the gym so I'm about to do the rowing machine and some weights that don't involve foot contact. My upper body may be super buff by the time this is all over!
I know it wasn't what you wanted to hear, but I'm so thankful that it wasn't worse! I'm glad that you have an answer and a good plan to tackle. I will be jealous of your buff arms, too. Hugs and I'm glad you're mostly okay!!!
That stinks but atleast u have answers now! I hope ur feeling better soon!
Going good so far! Used a Biore (type) strip this morning and feel like a new woman lol. I bought the Walgreens brand and it worked better for me than Biore!
Got to work on time, woo hoo.
Staying busy but its making time go by faster.
Working in the ER today for a few hours, cant wait! I love learning new jobs!
10179- I hope you get some good answers
Pirategirl- you need a countdown ticker
Phatkat- sorry about your news. I hope the next month flies by and you are as good as new before you know it.
Today is an okay day. Hoping the rain holds off long enough to take the dogs on a bike ride tonight. They have Spring fever like crazy and need to expend some energy! I could use the extra exercise as well!
oo good idea! I think I'll go do that now!
@lovey - update us on how you feel after the chiro appt. I remember the first time I went, I was really surprised at how good I felt in such a short period of time. I had 2 pinched nerves (1 in shoulder area, 1 in sciatic area) and at first I went 3xs a week for a month, then 2xs a week for a month, and then we backed it on down. Now I go once a month for maintenance on my shoulder. It's cut my migraines down from 2-3/wk to being a very rare occurrence & the ones I do get are far more manageable. My shoulder & neck are really tense right now and I have an appt tomorrow. I can't wait!
@phatkat - sorry about the news on your leg, especially since I know what that means for the Pig & how excited you were. Are they giving you any ideas on how to prevent that fluid buildup from happening again after it dissipates this time? Also - the rowing machine does involve foot contact doesn't it? You're pushing away?
Me - no meetings. YAY! And having a fairly productive day, which I really need. So I'm happy about that. Just wish I could get my stomach to stop growling - I've been working on conditioning myself to eat smaller amounts more frequently. It seems that pattern finally kicked in so that I'm hungry more frequently, but there's less warning now, so when I get hungry - I'm HUNGRY!! FEED ME NOOOOOWWW! and my stomach is already growling before I can even think of what my next snack is.
Technically yes kinda, and I'm going to double-check with the PT because the doc didn't say one way or another about the rowing machine. However, in my experience with it, I'm not pushing with my lower leg at all, just pulling with my upper body. The feet being strapped down just keeps them in place, and my legs straighten because I'm pulling away, not pushing away. Today, I couldn't feel it in my bad leg at all, which I think is a good gauge of whether I'm doing any harm. I'll admit that biking hurts, but I thought it was ok because pretty much everything hurts, and it didn't hurt more than anything else does right now.
The stress reaction is what happens when shin splints go on too long and the bone takes on more stress than it should. So for next time, the focus is on preventing the shin splints - working on the areas I really thought I had down (strength and flexibility) and possibly orthotics to fix my gait issues - I'm pigeon-toed.
Wait, where is your hubby Pirategirl?
I hate the rain, mostly b/c we need a new roof. Heck, we need a new house!
And I have a lovely chicken at home, waiting for me to stuff & put in the oven-mmm!
