Chris and I want to have a housewarming sometime in May, but is it okay to call it a housewarming? Does it feel like a gift grab? Should we just call it a BBQ at our new house?

Feels like no matter what it's called.. the people who would give a little something will give no matter what you call it, and the people that just want to come party with you at your new spot, will do exactly that no matter what you call it.
I wouldn't worry about it.
Not a bad idea to word it that way. But like PP's said, even if you just call it a BBQ, people will probably still show up with a little something.
