And the event of the year.....
Re: And the event of the year.....
Okay then.
I forgot this announcement was taking place. I suppose it's a fun thing, not really going to "change the way the world looks at GR" or however he put it. I'm confused as to how the Riverbank Run is included as an activity. Are they going to ask the runners to lipsync as they run?
I think that's awesome! Cool idea. I love watching those videos. They make me happy. I hope he can pull it off well.
Did you see the one that the Today Show did?
That is my thought - I see can how that is a complex under taking, but I think he followed his employers lead a bit in the "its going to change how the world views GR" (i.e. It's going to change the face of GR FOREVER!!!!).
I'm confused on the Riverbank run thing too. I can't imagine him trying to do this the day of the Riverbank run, unless he filmed segements of it, But isn't a lip dub supposed to be shot in one continous flow.
Traditionally, yes, I belive so. Sounds like he's going to do it a little differently though.
No, it probably won't change the way the world views Grand Rapids, but I think it sound like a neat idea, nonetheless.
I was listening to FB&HW morning show; they had Joe do his stunt there and interrupted the press conf. After he left, someone told him they started it all over. HA! Love those dorks.

I agree. In general, I have no problem with his events. I like that someone is doing something to add a little fun into GR. Some have obviously been more successful than others, but it's great for someone to at least be trying.
He comes across as so . . . self-important and I think that's what can put people off to him.
Yeah, it'll change the way the world sees Grand Rapids alright. They'll think we're a bunch of nerds. Kidding!
These events are always so over-sold. It seems like nothing they ever have planned even meets the expections I have when I hear it's supposed to be "the coolest thing" like EVER. Neat idea, yes, but it was super cool the first time I saw it done. Now it's just a copy cat version, in my opinion. I'm sure I'll check it out when it's done, and I'm sure it'll be well done, but this certainly isn't some break through idea.
Proud nerd here.
Thanks Julie and Kerco for writing my thoughts.
like his events. I thought Chalk Flood was great. I wish they had it again as I think the girls would be the right age to enjoy it. He just rubs me the wrong way.
Lib dubs are cool and fun, but nothing to build up for two weeks and act like it is some unique idea.
This reminds me of some group in the area that did a 'flash mob' except they promoted it for weeks when practice was and where and when they were going to do the flash mob. Isn't the whole point of a flash mob that it is supposed to be a surprise to the general public that happen to be at that location. That event wasn't a flash mob, it was dance recital.
I also think flash mobs are awesome.
I nearly fell out of my chair with excitement when they did one on Modern Family. "Hells, yes."
Point taken, thought, MB. The local group didn't do it quite right.
Here Kasa, some entertainment for you. Not a flash mob per say, but some fun stuff.

I think these are hilarious. I still love the Best Buy one.
You could do the Brian Williams dance.
(I cannot stop posting links in this thread.)
Me too - I've always wanted to be in a flash mob! and I love the song choice
I loved that episode!
I love Cam and Mitchell!!
Yay!
I don't get about people who comment on the lack of original events. Pool parties are fun, right? Apple pie is delicious, yes? One can still enjoy a party and pie even though the host or baker didn't invent the concept.
Rob Bliss creates a lot of hoopla around what he's doing; and that's part of the fun. I don't know if I'd want to attend an even that was billed as a kinda sorta good time with a few people.
Well, I guess my point is that you can't sell something as "changing GR FOREVER" when you are doing something that's been done on a national level for quite some time now, and has been done at two local universites as well. Taking someone else's idea and trying to sell it that way...seems kinda lame to me. And I'll be the first to admit, I'm sure my attitude is b/c I think the guy is a tool.
Like I said, I'm sure I'll enjoy the end result, but the upselling is what gets me. I continue to be underwhelmed. Perhaps when my kiddo is old enough to participate I'll lighten up on the guy. :-)
A tool for who? When he started these community events, he was working 100% on his own. He gets a little more help from businesses and the city these days because he has name recognition and successful past events, but he's still doing these things independently (i.e. not for profit).
