Anyone else live near flooding?

I know you do, Ro! Smile How's it going up there?

This is a picture of a park right by the main Highway in Chaska where I live. We were just down there taking pictures last night. I don't have my camera with me today so I'll have to post pictures later tonight. I got down pretty close to it, it's a really eery feeling. You can see the street lights that are on the highway if you look close, so you can tell how high the water is on the highway.

They'll probably shut this road down today or tomorrow. They're shutting down 101 in Shakopee right now.

This is the first year, in 3 years, that we've ever even thought about flood insurance. We bought the policy mostly for peace of mind after the City sent us letters about it. We've never gotten the letters before. It's horrific to think about what could happen. I know that there is absolutely nothing anyone can do to stop this, so I need to stop worrying about it, but easier said than done.

ETA: These are some pictures from last year's flooding. They're predicting this year's to be worse.

The picture below is the park that I pictured above. I walked down those stairs and was standing by that railing last night. I could have stood next to that trellis thing by the tree too.

ETA: I just got an email that the current elevation of the water is 713.5'. That's a lot of frickin water!

Re: Anyone else live near flooding?

  • DH and I were down there Saturdy and went to that same park.  I've noticed in the last couple of days that the Crow River entering into the Mississippi in Dayton is really high.  The Rum River in Anoka is pretty high too.  And all the rain from yesterday and the snow from overnight isn't going to help this at all.

  • we're still fine up here.  We just got a good snowstorm!  lol  But Fargo has been filling sandbags for a month or so, GF is pretty well protected now with the flood walls, but north and south of town are a different story.  I planned on going out this weekend and taking some "before" pics of the worst areas.
