Gr City residents

The city is changing the way trash pick up is paid for. I guess it makes sense. The only thing I don't like is that there are some weeks we can get away with one bag and other times we need 2 or three if we are doing major cleaning. We will probably order the smallest size, but will have to figure out what to do with the extra trash on those weeks. Oh, yeah, I just thought about the fact that we have to find a place in the garage for another container.  That part will suck.

Speaking of trash, I think my two neighbors must bring their trash elsewhere. They NEVER have trash. I know this because the girls LOVE the garbage truck, so we have to watch out the window when he goes by and there are never bags at the two houses across the street from me.

Re: Gr City residents

  • We are a family of 3 that uses the middle size cart. I know some weeks we don't fill it all up - and those are usually the weeks our recycling cart is overflowing. Our carts definitely don't fit in the garage - our garage is just wide and long enough to fit our 2 cars. But we have the carts tucked in a little nook outside the back of our house and it makes it so easy to clean out the car and keep our trash contained and out of the way. Easy easy.
  • We've had a cart for a few months--64 gal size. Not always full.

  • Just read the article; they say yard waste collection remains free. Ummm...how exactly? We pay for the special GR City bags there, too (they refused to take our Menard's bags), or we have to put a yard waste sticker ($) on our yard waste cart. Where's the "free" part?

  • Ok, I'm annoyed about yard waste. You either have to get a cart or haul it to city lot on Butterworth. We don't have room for three  containers.

I think we need to invest in a composter. Hopefully I can talk the hubby into it.

Right there with you. We only put out yard waste bags a few times a season.  The cart for us will not be used all that often.

Keep us posted on your composter adventure.

I work in the boonies with a ton of land and woods. I think I may be doing some midnight..errr 8am runs to the woods to dump my compost.  Between the kids backyard toys, we don't have much room for a composter. I guess I could dump it over the fence where my neighbor throws all his crap.

Your neighbor may actually appreciate your "contributions" to his compost pile.

If you really do go through the trouble of composting and get some good stuff going, I may take it off your hands; we are attempting to garden for the first time this summer, and our backyard soil isn't very good.
