I have never posted on this board, but I am in need of advice and am hoping you all can help! My husband has an extremely low sex drive. It's been an ongoing issue for quite some time now, and he has a doctor appointment this week to see what may be the cause and how it can be helped. We expect that he will be screened for depression and have his blood drawn to check his testosterone levels. The longer this has gone on, the more he's pulled away from me and withdrawn into himself. It's difficult to tell if he is depressed or if our relationship is just strained. When we first started having sex he had what I would consider an average/"normal" sex drive, but he occasionally had trouble finishing. He also looked at pornography quite a bit, something he doesn't do anymore that I know of.
I really hope the doctor can sort some of this out and give us some answers... or at least rule some things out. Either way, we have agreed that we will begin seeing a counselor together in the near future to help repair some of the strain this has had on our marriage.
My questions: Do any of you have experience with this? If so (or in general) what questions/issues do you think he should bring up with his doctor? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you in advance for reading.
Re: Husband's lack of sex drive
He also needs his thyroid checked. A shot thyroid can shoot your libido to hell and give you lots of erectile problems.
He also needs to be screened for circulatory problems, diabetes and cardiac issues if he's having problems getting it up. The distick to a man's health is his penis.
It could also be psychological if all of the above, and a hormone problem, is ruled out.
What exactly is his problem? are there erection problems and/or he's not ejaculating?
Things can sure creep up on you. You could be fine one week and a bit later on, develop a problem.
Maybe it is psychological -- a doctor would rule out any physical problems. I suggest a urologist visit first.
No, not necessarily bad. Maybe he is subconsciously afraid of impregnating you --- a sex therapist can address these issues.
