s/o How much maternity leave?

Two questions. Just out of curiosity.

Do you get any paid maternity leave?

How much time would you like to take off after having a child?

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave?

Re: s/o How much maternity leave?

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? Yes, I get 8 weeks (through short term disability).

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? I'm hoping I can take 4 additional weeks with vacation time on top of the 8 weeks I already get. I haven't inquired whether that is possible though.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? That I don't know for sure, but I'm guessing no (or at least nothing substantial).

  • our maternity leave is covered under our short term disability plan.  standard is 75% pay for 6 weeks (8 with c-section) but the first 5 days are PTO days before the short term kicks in.  I pay in (like $10/month) to the higher plan that is 100% pay for the 6-8 weeks.

No paternity leave - Tim would have to use PTO

We also qualify for FMLA, but since we both work for the same company, we dip into the same 12 week pool and I think we'd have to exhaust our PTO before taking FMLA.  I'm not 100% on that though, since the FMLA also runs concurrently with our disability (FMLA is unpaid though).

I'm not sure how much time I would want to take off.  I think 3 months and then come back on a part time or full time schedule with some set work-from-home days.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? I don't THINK so, outside of 6w of short term disability, but to be honest I haven't looked into it much. I can take a year off unpaid for child care once I have been here 3 yrs Chris gets STD for 6-8w under FMLA and the equiv for 6w under NJ FLA, which comes to something like 40% of her salary.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? I will take the full 12 weeks. beyond that, i doubt it.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? hahahaha. no.

ETA: there's a rumor C's company pays the difference b/t state STD and her salary to make it 100%. if true, she'll take the full 12-14 w she can get paid (w/ NJ FLA, she could be out 24, but unpaid time off isnt an option for us right now).

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave?  Yep, I have Short Term Disability coverage.  I will get 6 weeks (vaginal delivery) or 8 weeks (c-section) at 60% of my pay.  I do have to use 5 days of PTO before STD kicks in - so really it will be 5 or 7 weeks at 60%

How much time would you like to take off after having a child?  Well my work only follows WI FMLA not federal (even though we qualify) so I would like to take the 12 weeks, but will only get to take the 6 (or 8 weeks) plus my 2 weeks vacation time.... so 8 or 10 weeks total.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? I know he can take off, not sure if it's paid ... never thought to ask!  He will likely just burn vacation (He has to use it anyway because he keeps maxing out)

This is very similar. I can take up to 26 weeks without pay under FMLA, it'd be nice to take that, but we'd need my income.

M, does not have paternity leave but he has tons of comp/sick/vacay time since he never uses it, it would be a problem for him to be off.

I hope to at least be able to take 12 weeks, which means I have to stop traveling so much now and bank hours!

Two questions. Just out of curiosity.

Do you get any paid maternity leave? Yes, three months through short-term disability and PTO time.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? The full three months!

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? He gets a week paid, and then he will use his one week of vacation time for two weeks and will work 7-11 a.m. half days during that timeframe.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? Yes, I had 6 weeks through short term disability. Because I bought the supplimental I was paid at regular salary, otherwise it would have only been 2/3rds of my salary.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? I took 11 weeks of my 12 available. This was more than I was anticipating, but we ended up going to CO two weeks later then I had originally planned so I just extended my maternity leave to cover the period that we were gone.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? Yes, he has 3 weeks of "parental" leave. He was home the first two weeks following Norah's birth and he still has one week left.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? When I had Annie, I was at my old job.  I got 13 fully paid weeks off.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? I tried to take 15 weeks but my HR wouldn't approve me using my sick leave as an add on to maternity leave.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? No.  Jonathan wasn't able to take any time off.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? I didn't when I was pregnant with P because I was hired on contract one semester at a time.  With a new job that I'll hopefully have by the next time around I would assume so but I would need to figure that out with HR first I guess.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? At least a semester.  If timing works out I could get Jan-July off

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? No. He had to use vacation time with P.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? Nope, just whatever vacation and sick-time you have saved.  Sick days roll over, vacay doesn't, so if/when I find out I'm pg, I'll stop taking days off after my days reload in October.  I currently have 14 sick days.  I know we have STD, but I'm not sure when it kicks in and how much it pays.  If I were to get pg soon, I'll have almost 20 days of sick, then my 2 weeks of vacation.ish

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? I'd apply to the board to take 90 days off.  I don't foresee this being an issue.  We'll do what we can to live off DH's salary for the 6 weeks that would be unpaid (again, not sure of the STD policy), if that doesn't work, we'll have savings to dip into.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? I think he does, but I'm not sure on specifics.  He works for a very large company that is very good to their employees.   He probably wouldn't apply for it though if they do, he has tons of vacation and almost always loses a few days.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave?Yes. I would take sick leave (I currently have at least 100+ hrs saved up b/c you can save this up indefinitely), then paid maternity leave, then PDL, then FMLA. I know there are some gaps of not getting paid so I would use my vacation time for that.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? If I use all those times, I think it comes out to be about 3-4 mos.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? Um, yes and no? He works for a small company so he may take some time off.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? We get up to 12 weeks of short term disability, we have to use 5 "sick days" before it kicks in, I know the minimum you get is 60% of your salary and it goes up from there depending on how long you've been employed here.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? I plan on taking every single day I can, so hopefully the full 12 weeks, we really can't afford for me to take any unpaid time off.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? He does not but he works at a small school so there isn't really a set policy for these things.  A co-worker of his recently had a baby and they gave him the week off with pay, they did the same for JT when we got married.

Do you get any paid maternity leave? None paid. We can use our paid time off and we also can use from the "emergency" sick bank if we need to (basically, you can go negative on your sick time). We can take 12 weeks unpaid under FMLA. Our current management is open to temporary work from home, too. We might try negotiating something into our upcoming contract.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? Probably 8 weeks. Maybe 10 if I have a cesarean.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? I have have asked and he doesn't think so. He would probably take 2ish weeks in vacation/sick time, though.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? I think I have 8 weeks short term disability (60% salary) and can take 4 weeks thru FMLA to total 12 weeks.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? At this point, I'm only taking off what I can....  I'm sure I'd love to take more than that!

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave?  4 weeks paid leave at 100%. It's going to be crazy weird to see him for 4 weeks straight.

  • imagexojo1:

Do you get any paid maternity leave?Yes, I get 6 weeks at 60% from STD and then I will be taking an additional 4 weeks of vacation and 1 week of sick time and then I am going to take 1 week unpaid to get a full 12 w/o totally depleting either my sick time or my vacation time.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child?12 weeks

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? No, since he works in the entertainment world he works on a contract basis at each job. His summer contract is great though and he is starting 2 weeks early so that he can take 2 weeks off when she is born and not miss any of his pay check.

  • I got 6 weeks paid maternity leave (I would've gotten 8 if I had a C-section) under my STD. I also received a week of "parental" leave which I used right after my 6 weeks were up, then I used a week of vacation and had two weeks unpaid (through FMLA) for a total of 10 weeks of maternity leave. It was the right balance -- I wasn't ready to go back any sooner, but I wasn't wanting to stay home any longer either Smile

The next time around, I'm planning on taking the same amount of time off.

Keith didn't have any PTO for after Brody was born, but he took a week off in the beginning.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? Not really. We can use our sick and vacation time and/or go unpaid for up to 6 months.

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? I will have about 15 weeks in my sick/vacation bank by the end of the year, and I plan to take 8-10 weeks off.

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? He can take time off if the vacation block is open. Otherwise, 3 shifts off (which = 9 days total).

  • By provincial legislation, everyone in our province (no matter where you work) is entitled to 18 weeks maternity leave and up to 34 weeks parental leave for a total of 52 weeks. I believe that during that time you are eligible to receive 60% of your wage by appling for Employment Insurrance. Lots of companies have a "top-up" program to get up to 100% of your pay for a portion of that time.

Spouses are entitled to up to 37 weeks paternal leave.

Lol, no kidding. Most industrialized countries do have some sort of policy like Canada's. The United States is definitely way behind in the game on that one.

  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? Nope. They conveniently keep me for only 4 days so that I don't get benefits (yay, part-time! No)

How much time would you like to take off after having a child? I plan on SAHM

Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? You know, I'm not sure. It would be really nice, but I doubt it. Luckily, he gets to accumulate "flex time" that he can use as he pleases (as long as his project allows).
  • Do you get any paid maternity leave? Yes/No. I have to use my sick days which I've been building up since I started.  I have 58 (I have never taken one, been here 4 years.)
How much time would you like to take off after having a child? My plan is to have a baby in the spring (as much as I can plan) so I can use my sick days and then be off in the summer. In a perfect world if I had a baby in April I would be off till August. Ok, third question - does you DH get paid paternity leave? I think he gets a week paid. He has the ability to work from home in needed.

I keep telling you guys you should come up here to have babies! There was a girl I worked with who took 3.5 months off work before coming back from mat leave. Everyone thought she was nuts! I think you gals must be so organized and confident to go back to work after just a couple months (if that!)!

  • We 6-8 weeks paid Maternity Leave depending on delivery. If your 1st day off is due to hospitalization you don't have the 5 day wait period where you have to use vacation time.

I was off for 8 weeks because Maddy was a c-section. I was truly ready to go back to work at the time too. I would have been happy to be off for a week or two before.

Dh does not get any paid paternity. He took a week of vacation time and an unpaid FMLA week.

I wonder if more moms in Canada breastfeed/breastfeed longer due to the better leave?

  • 1. Yes, we get 8 weeks.  2 weeks prior to due date and 6 weeks after (7 weeks if c-section).  We also can qualify for FMLA, but after 6 weeks it is unpaid unless we use our PTO.

    2. I took 9 1/2 weeks after M's birth.  I'd like to at least take 10, but with subsequent children I hope to take at least 12 weeks.  I'm REALLY hoping after baby #3 to just go back PT.  I'm not sure if we can swing it quite yet after baby #2.  As it is I only work a 4-day week now.

    3. No, but he can get FMLA protection.  DH took 2 1/2 weeks PTO after M's birth.
