Does anyone have experience growing wisteria? I'm going to purchase some online as none of my local nurseries carry them (which is probably a bad sign). My mom has had a few for over 7 years, but they've never bloomed. From what I've ready, Chinese Wisteria takes about 2-3 years to bloom. Just wondering if anyone has any tips/advice on successfully growing them. I'd like to get them going as a vine over the fence.
Re: Wisteria?
No! Don't do it!
Chinese and japanese wisteria are terrible invasive and aggressive. They will pull down your fence. I've know ppl that had it growing up the side of their house & it got in their attic. I've also known people that have had it pull down walls...brick walls.
A less aggressive option would be the native wisteria (wisteria frutescens)
Yes indeed.
Ditto. We battle it in our yard. It's amazingly hard to get rid of.
Wisteria is the devil's plant. It will never go away, just like bamboo.
There are plenty of other vines with beautiful flowers that won't be a constant battle.
